Common Dreams did not update the article so I removed the content of this post. I would done this earlier but I will not stand to be bullied into doing anything. If I was told in respectful manner that the article was wrong I would of wasted no time in removing it. I may be a cripple but I am no pushover and will not stand being abused by anyone at anytime.
Let me add Skinner himself made a mistake with the Bernie Sanders Photo-gate............ Not saying I dare to compare myself to a Yale Graduate but this former carpenter admits he has hit his thumb every now again.....

(51,660 posts)Several posters in this thread have tried to get the OP to update the post to note that Hillary, like Bernie, has stated her support for Obama's announced plan. But the OP refuses to post an update, despite knowing that Hillary is not "silent" (let alone in opposition) but is in fact in agreement with Obama's plan.

Indeed, as she left office after serving as Secretary of State, as one of her last actions she (again) entreated Obama to close GITMO.

(20,043 posts)I support President Obamas plan today to close the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay and finally close the door on this chapter of our history. Over the years, Guantanamo has inspired more terrorists than it has imprisoned. It has not strengthened our national security; it has damaged it, Clinton said in a statement.
In the statement Clinton goes on to say that shes supported Guantanamos closure since she was a senator and said that she worked on it as secretary of state.
As President Obama's Secretary of State, I appointed a special envoy and worked with our friends and partners around the world to repatriate or resettle prisoners, with all appropriate monitoring and security, Clinton said. Closing Guantanamo would be a sign of strength and resolve. Congress should implement President Obamas plan as quickly and responsibly as possible."

Just weeks before she stepped down as secretary of state, Hillary Clinton sent President Obama a memo urging him to close the Guantanamo Bay prison and offering strategies to do so, the Huffington Post reported.
"I remain a strong advocate of your policy to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility (GTMO) responsibly and to ensure U.S. detention policy and practice for terrorism suspects are consistent with U.S. values and do not strengthen our enemies," Clinton wrote in the memo, which the Huffington Post obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request.

(7,661 posts)As of this writing, Clinton has yet to respond to Obama's proposal on Tuesday. As Politico points out, the same year that Clinton voted in favor of keeping Guantánamo open, she co-sponsored legislation with Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) that would have allowed detainees to be transferred to U.S. prison facilities or international tribunals.

Sanders hits Clinton on Gitmo despite his own similar vote

Washington (CNN)Bernie Sanders attacked Hillary Clinton's record on the detention center at Guantanamo Bay on Tuesday, just after President Barack Obama delivered his blueprint for the controversial military prison's closure.
But Sanders himself has voted against shuttering the U.S. military facility in Cuba.
And unlike Clinton, he has not signed on as a cosponsor to legislation that would have led to the closure of the facility, otherwise known as Gitmo

(52,166 posts)Two years later, in 2009, with Clinton serving as Obama's secretary of state, Sanders broke with his fellow Vermont senator Patrick Leahy, a Democrat, on another Guantanamo Bay-related measure.
That vote, like the one Sanders criticized Clinton for casting, was overwhelming -- a 90-to-6 vote to block Obama's request for funds to shutter the facility in Cuba until the President laid out plans for what to do with the then-240 detainees there.
Sanders was among the 90 opponents of Obama on that measure; Leahy was among the six supporters.
Yep, Sanders voted to keep the place open. Oh and down thread we find out she hasn't be silent. Oh, and she cosponsered a bill to close it but otherwise your OP is a veritable fountain of truth.

(57,349 posts)Iraq and Afghanistan
Date Posted: 05/21/2009
The Senate on Thursday passed a $91 billion supplemental spending bill. The bulk of the spending would pay for war operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. The bill contains $73 billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan without providing, to my mind, the kind of exit strategy to both conflicts that I believe we need, Senator Bernie Sanders said. A long-time critic of the war in Iraq, Sanders also has voiced reservations about the United States becoming bogged down in Afghanistan. The fate of the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, also was debated during consideration of the bill. I agree with President Obama that Guantanamo must be shut down. I want it shut down as soon as possible. I want to make sure that torture is never again part of Americas interrogation practices and that all detainees are treated under the rules of the Geneva Conventions, Sanders said.
A number of important questions remain unanswered regarding the rather complicated issue of not just how you close down the facility, but what you do with the prisoners, he added. Are there some who should be released, are there others who should be returned to their home countries, are we confident that under Bush the correct determinations were made with respect to these prisoners status as enemy combatants? In order to answer these questions, President Obama has appointed a high-level committee of top administration officials who will be issuing a report in the coming months. I think that it is prudent to review that plan they develop before we spend $80 million in taxpayer money.
