2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHillary's win today in SC will be HUUUUGE
Sadly, after Super Tuesday there will no longer be a path for Bernie to the nomination. I just hope we can then all come together to make sure there is no President Trump.

(254 posts)Why do so many of the pictures, memes or whatever it is you call them, such as the one you are using in your post, have a crawling insect to the right of them? Does the insect signify anything?
I find the images of insects crawling all over my computer screen to be totally unappealing so I do not understand what this is all about.

I still don't get it.
How are crawling insects poetic?

(21,147 posts)The Duer was banned. Apparently, some DUers feared him so much that they created a fly-swatter gif to celebrate this banning with each post. Despite making DU suck, the admins seem to have no problem with this rather elongated grave dancing.
The fly gif (w/o the swatter) is a reminder to the people who still celebrate the loss of a DUer that they cannot avoid disagreement through a great purge, despite what seem to be apparent efforts to do just that.

(254 posts)Thank you for the detailed explanation. For people who are not familiar with the story, the gif makes absolutely no sense.
Symbolism aside, the gif is really annoying. Isn't there a better way to share the same sentiments, and does the sentiment need to be shared with each and every post, no matter what the topic is? Sorry but I find that ubiquitous fly distracting.

That is one of 3-4 states Bernie really needs out of 11 on Super Tuesday.
He will, of course, win big in Vermont.
Some polls are close in Mass, but I think he has some home field advantage there.
That leaves only Minnesota, Colorado and Oklahoma where Bernie has a chance Tuesday.
All 5 states would be huge and he can recapture some momentum.
4 would be very good.
3 would be ok and keep him viable.
2 and he's in trouble.
1 - Vermont and it's all over.

Bernie won that age group with over 80%. Just not enuf showed up.
Hard to understand. They come to his campus rallies in huge numbers with huge enthusiasm.
But, come voting day, many don't get to the polls.

Nice stealing of the Yuuuuuuge thingie there.
Once again, Clinton supporters are parroting Bernie, after finding that what he says, or is said about him resonates.

(34,845 posts)And I doubt Sanders will still be running until the actual convention. If he does, when all the math is against him at that point, he is simply shit-stirring and doing a disservice to the party he only recently joined.

(12,471 posts)Actions are another. Bernie has been acting on the things he has been proposing for years. Small steps. We need larger ones, and Hillary is too much in the bag with corporations to make any big steps for WE THE PEOPLE, because she works for them, the corporations.

Sadly, there won't be as good a reason if that happens, but I'll vote for Mrs Triangulation if that's all we get. I'm used to it.

(205 posts)This is an example of how much Bernie has influenced the entire party.
If, Hillary is the nominee, which the DNC is doing everything it can to make sure of this, you will never bring the party together by telling Bernie supporters, "Ha Ha, now join us".
We will only come together when Bernie is honored for his message and stance on political policy. Same is true for a Bernie nomination.

(22,271 posts)The Democratic Party is finished. But it doesn't really matter when the "Democrat" is exactly the same as the Republican. It's all good for the .01% -- they don't care who their puppet in the White House is. It's all a big game to them. Just like it's all a big game to the Hillarians.

(34,845 posts)Sanders certainly joined when he saw the advantage in doing so. If all he's going to do is crash the party and make a mess, then he'll end up with the same kind of legacy as Ralph Nader.

(221 posts)Bernie has and will be a major influence. The OP link explains it.
Bottom line is that we all wish we had a stronger candidate than Hillary BUT, to win the general election the candidate must be a moderate. Sanders is not perceived as a moderate by anyone.

(205 posts)Hillary is a lite republican. We have seen this with Obama.
Obama is part Dem, then out comes his republicanism. Hillary will do the same and does so now.

(80 posts)I am tired of people dumping on Obama as changing from a lefty liberal. Any one paying attention would have known that he was always a moderate Democrat, which is where you have to be to GOVERN this country. If you just want to destroy stuff, then you can be out on the extreme wings.

You can't win a race against grass roots hyped up energy with an incremental, slow, tainted with issues candidate.

(4,213 posts)HRC should do well in SC and Dixie. However, when we get to the actual states who vote Democoatic, it will then be interesting.
An interesting state is Massachusetts however. Let's see how that goes.

We'll see how huge the win is, then we'll see about Super Tuesday... then we'll see what happens after Super Tuesday. A Clinton victory is not inevitable. All of this premature gloating is just that... gloating. It's not over yet.

(3,629 posts)The best case scenario for Hillary is that she comes out of Super Tuesday with something like an 800-600 advantage in delegates. That's proportional representation for you. That gives her less than half of what she needs for a majority lock, and a lead of only about a tenth of the lock threshold. Going into a lot of large states that are more favorable to Sanders that is a very surmountable lead.
You are doing nobody any favors by repeating this tripe. Remember it's exactly the same reasoning that lost her the primary in 2008.

(3,795 posts)A candidate can NOT dismiss, ridicule, and mock voters and then expect for them to campaign and/or vote for them.
That's not going to work for many people. Many Bernie supporters are telling you this, and you should listen to them.
Add to this, independents do not support HRC, and the youth vote does not either, and we have a very serious problem. It is painfully obvious this is true, but HRC supporters do not seem to care.
