2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumMoment of Truth: Clinton/corp media are working overtime to try to get Bernie Supporters to give up.
If she really had it in the bag, they wouldn't be working so hard.
It is manipulation. Do not fall for it!

(14,586 posts)One that comes to mind is when MSNBC, which is owned by Comcast, cut off footage of Bernie just as he was criticizing the TPP, which Comcast supports. Look at Chris Matthews.
But that's OK. We have the social media and so can debunk a lot of the outright lies or misrepresentations.

That kind of misrepresented. I could see where that would irritate someone.

Then when asked if he's ever had to get 60 votes for anything, Sanders waved the question off.

(3,014 posts)that Clinton will magically wish away the conservative hatred for her and pull votes from the right side of the aisle? If we are to believe that Bernie will never get the votes from congress...then how in the hell is Hillary going to get them?
Because the Republicans love her so much. That's why. Because Republicans don't understand that ever siding with Clinton is political suicide for them.

(16,189 posts)Oh and he'd better get "within 10 points"... That's where they want to set the bar.
And he "gave up on SC".. Guess he was supposed to spend seven days campaigning in South Carolina and then cover TWELVE states in the next two days. That would be very stupid strategy wouldn't it?

(16,189 posts)The point wasn't which one he is winning in. Just that they are devoting hundreds and hundreds of hours of their time to South Carolina and barely minutes to any of the other states that are voting just three days later. Our corporate media just sucks. And I'm really missing Melissa Harris Perry this morning, too.

FAUX NEWS kills CNN and MSNBC in the ratings and that sucks. I don't know what MSNBC' s game plan is.

(16,189 posts)There's a lot of good still on MSNBC - Rachel's coverage of Flint, Chris Hayes is focused on important issues like food production and the drought. But when the chips are down, MSNBC I'm afraid is showing it's true colors. Anything that threatens the status quo is a problem.
Fox is available everywhere. MSNBC requires a higher tier cable, and I have stayed in places that did not have it. I'm sure that's no accident either.

(29,798 posts)Because the stats show that, ultimately, the arguments of Senator Sanders are persuasive.
Even with a media blackout on Sander's message - the word is getting out and his numbers are steadily climbing. So the Hillary Campaign is racing to create a series of narratives designed to create a bandwagon effect. Sadly for her camp, those mindless memes crumble almost as fast as their press minions can promulgate them. And this one you are helping to promote, along with the 'Super Tuesday Ends It' fairy tale are going to meet the same fate as the 'Sander's isn't a serious candidate' and the 'Nevada Firewall' false memes met.
Sander's won't "win" Super Tuesday, and he might not win the primary; after all, the antidemocratic forces arrayed against him are like nothing I've ever seen. But I can make one prediction that will hold. Bernie Sanders is going to be causing you and the rest of the Hillary camp a huge amount of anxiety for a long time to come and it isn't going to end with this primary election.
A public notice:
Third Way Democrats your day is done; Bernie Democrats have been born and we are coming to take our party back.

it brings back "My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don't understand it.""
And I'm left thinking "Really? THAT'S what you want to remind people about?"

(7,830 posts)Not a single economist who supports these plans (and many exist) was quoted in the story. Nor, for that matter, was Friedman, whose work was attacked by name. "The New York Times did not contact me [for the article]," Friedman told Truthout. "And they still haven't contacted me." The article also failed to mention that hundreds of economists have signed a letter expressing personal support for Sanders' economic agenda. Former US Labor Secretary Robert Reich is among the signatories. Other signatories include Dean Baker of the Center for Economic and Policy Research and Richard Wolff of Democracy at Work and the New School for Social Research, both of whom are more accurately reflective of "left-leaning economists," than ones cited by the Times.
The article ignored many other important facts. It made no mention of the many studies that have been done over the years that show single-payer on a national scale to not only be viable, but also to have great benefits. Some of these studies were even written by Ken Thorpe, who was one of the critics cited in the Times article and the author of a paper written in January that suggests Sanders is underestimating the cost and overstating the benefits.....
........The Times' article blew up across social media and other media outlets. This was in part because Paul Krugman, the influential economist and Times columnist, and a vocal supporter of Hillary Clinton, endorsed the absurdly one-sided article on Twitter and his blog where he dismissed Sanders' single-payer proposal as a "magical unicorn" (again we see mockery as a way to portray supporters of Sanders as unserious, or "on another planet" . It wasn't long before hundreds of outlets ran with the story, demonstrating the "agenda-setting" function of the Times.
To further cement this narrative, two days later four former chairs of the Council of Economic Advisers (CEA), wrote a letter to Friedman and Sanders, saying these projections were "fantastical claims," ran counter to the Democratic Party's best traditions of evidence-based policy making" and "undermine the credibility of the progressive agenda." This prompted another wave of articles further painting Sanders' proposals as "voodoo economics," to borrow another instance of mockery in Krugman's writing on the issue. One Huffington Post headline discussed how Sanders' plan was "torn apart" by former Clinton and Obama economists, reinforcing the false notion that "even the left" knows single-payer health care and tuition-free college are not serious proposals.
*****This blitz of criticism, made by just a handful of economists - most of them deeply entrenched in the Democratic Party establishment - was presented so uncritically in the dominant media that the casual observer of the news would have no clue that their arguments are in dispute. *****

(10,497 posts)They are sewing the seeds of an irreparable split in the Democratic Party if they keep this up. It's unfair and disingenuous. Like Bernie told Chris Mathews the other night, "You just aren't getting it!" Our country can certainly accomplish Bernie's proposals, many other countries do this. It could be done with money saved from reigning in the fraud, waste, and abuse in the Defense Budget. It's about priorities, not ability!

(7,830 posts)Its so frustratingly bizarre. But then, they are conservatives at the core, just more reasonable, or flexible in manipulation of public opinion, something...
We are fighting for Democratic principles. Hillary just happens to embody all that is wrong within the current Democratic party.
We need another FDR. Bernie is that person.
