Is Lake Superior Overseas? Over a Lake? Or Over Michigan? Ask Paul Ryan~~~

No really. This is not a joke.

So, I rewatched the debate and Paul Ryan said something that sounded like the following:

.....In my town, Overseas is crossing Lake Superior....

Okay but not really, I thought. Janesville, WI is near Lake Michigan as MOST of Wisconsin is except a tiny bit. I know this because as a lifelong Michigander, one of my first lessons in grade school geography was the four lakes that surround my lovely state.

Then I had to check this on twitter to ensure that Ryan made the comment I thought I heard him say. Sure enough....my ears were not fooling me.

@Fox_Noise:
RT @anamariecox: RT @anamariecox: That Lake Superior joke usually kills! Poor Ryan.

Paul Ryan thinks Lake Superior is a sea so there's that.

So, check this. Paul Ryan who would be a HEARTBEAT AWAY from the BIG RED BUTTON thinks Lake Superior, which is nowhere near his town of Janesville, Wisconsin, is a SEA ---you know, like the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean, that needs to be crossed to get overseas?

And Republicans want to CUT and GUT education. It's seems as if they might want to educate their V.P. Candidate that Lakes Superior and Michigan, are LAKES and not SEAS. Also the only international land that can be accessed by Lake Superior is Canada.

At this point, I guess Mexico is international also to Ryan since Texans can cross the Gulf or just drive a attached boarder to get there (depending on location and all)....

when I was growing up in Michigan we didn't think of Canada as overseas. It was the next door neighbors, good friends, sometimes family, definitely not foreigners. However, Repub = xenophobe.

He knows it's a lake. He's just making a lame joke.

But on the other hand, it shows how insular his hometown is.

Call them that then and not seas. He said it, I didn't and its' a LAME JOKE at best.

But then Republicans are LAME individuals....which you defended here a bit.

That imbecile graduated a few years after I did from the same high school. My high school must have taken a dive in scholastics after I left.

I don't recall in my years living there that overseas was crossing Lake Superior. I and many of us knew Lake Superior which was way to the north and Lake Michigan on the eastern coast were lakes.

Ryan probably had too much brain freeze from skiing.

Using "overseas" as a metaphor for going to a foreign country. If you cross Lake Superior from Ashland, Wisconsin, you're in Canada.

This is a non-issue.
