Pickens County: Sanders 44%, Romney 73%
I keep seeing posts that state that Clinton only carried South Carolina because it's a conservative state and that she's basically a conservative, but the numbers really do not suggest that is why she won. Clinton posted weaker performances in counties that are far from being liberal bastions. In the 2008 Democratic primary, Obama placed third in Oconee County, despite winning big statewide.
With that said, considering that most true conservatives cast votes in the Republican primary, it's pretty much irrelevant to complain about the Democratic electorate being too conservative. But, it seems like the conservatives who still vote in the Democratic primary leaned closer to Sanders than Clinton if you look at the results geographic wise.

Obama's worst counties were the worst counties for a candidate who was a member of his administration and that is abundantly clear on this map.
