Colorado is feeling the Bern (and that could be quite interesting in that state!)

(50,986 posts)Ok, that song isn't really a good fit, but it's the one that came to mind.
John Denver wrote it. Mary Travers did a magnificent recording of it.
If Colorado is Sanders country, then thank you Colorado. Especially, thanks to all the folks none of the rest of us have met but who worked the neighborhoods knocking on doors and making calls. That effort didn't go for nothing -- you helped changed your country this evening.
All the rest of us far away from the Front Range tonight say thank you.

(2,379 posts)Always loved that John Denver song. I think we can guess which is the Eagle and which is the Hawk.
saltpoint
(50,986 posts)probably is the one.
I was never hogwild about John Denver but am forced to admit the rascal wrote some darn fine tunes.

(154,021 posts)way too much shit I am looking at
But in the completely cynical view of the world, this places this election into real competition. She needed to sweep every state. and she did not. I got a feeling MN is going to go to Bernie, decisively and MS is close, either way he gets large swath of delegates. Fun fact, if it remains under 15 percent in VT, no delegates for her.
And this is just the math. I will have to write the story going into delegates not who won what, in the morning.
Also fun fact, she has run out of money. LA Times reported that about two weeks ago, and this is when Obama became competitive, outside of the conservative south.
litlbilly
(2,227 posts)Bernie does not have to go back to Goldman Sachs etc to keep it going. That would be something if Hillary doesn't get the 15% in VT.

(3,001 posts)I realize Bernie supporters have a lot of hatred for Obama. It's one of their distinguishing characteristics, especially here on DU. It's also part of what makes up Bernie's Achilles heel.

(2,603 posts)Now we pivot towards the Democratic states.
VA was a bit of an upset for me tonight. However, there are a lot of voters there that have a vested interest in Hillary winning. They're in the tax bracket with portfolios that may have to contribute something closer to a fair share if Sanders wins.

(4,221 posts)After the presidential poll, we have to do same process all over again for like 5-9 other races (depending on your county).
The several other races are: congressmen/women, state legislators, district attorneys, university regents
Then we elect the delegates and equal number of alternates (for EVERY race listed above) which takes a full hour, because everyone keeps asking which assembly, which convention, where is that one, what date is that - that part is remarkably tedious.
THEN,THEN, then when everyone just wants to go home, that is when we get to have a NINE page Colorado party platform read to us to accept or object to any parts (even though accepted/rejected year after year), then people get opportunity to propose resolutions to add to the platform. In my precinct people proposed resolutions :/
It is truly democracy in action in some ways, and in others, it's a hot, chaotic mess. Needs more cowbell (technology could do a lot to update and simplify this process)
THEN the worksheet totals get called in to the Dem party. So, all of that to say that very few places are able call any numbers in until 9pm.
Enjoyed it/hated it. Hard to explain.

(11,945 posts)and who understand what our nation's founders wanted for us -- and who know something about the candidates -- would prefer Bernie. I've been to Boston and Cambridge a few times on business and visiting smart progressive friends, and was impressed with all the colleges & universities in the area, and that, combined with a few other things, gave me the impression that MA would probably go for Bernie.

My job is done, btw, now I can sit back and watch, as I always do, every election year (except for 2014; couldn't be active), as faux progressives fail to pull their states or make excuses like "we are a red state" or some such nonsense.

(11,945 posts)We started off the night winning Vermont, then we won Oklahoma and Colorado, and moments ago they called Minnesota for us as well. FOUR big victories for our political revolution tonight.
No one thought we would get this far. You proved them wrong. Working people are coming together and voting for Bernie in states across the country. They are contributing small amounts of money so we can compete with the millionaires and billionaires bankrolling Hillary Clintons campaign and her largest super PACs.
Contribute $100 to our campaign tonight and well have the resources to continue our momentum into the twelve primaries and caucuses happening over the next two weeks.
Our campaign needs to be prepared for whatever comes next. I can assure you that our opponent's billionaires and lobbyists will do everything they can to stop our campaign in the twelve caucuses or primaries in the next two weeks.
You should be extraordinarily proud of what we accomplished tonight and were just getting started. People should not underestimate us.
In solidarity,
Jeff Weaver

(80,708 posts)And frankly Hillary's answers on both havent exactly been inspiring stuff.
If you're supporting HRC here in OR, you're honestly the first one Ive come across. Everyone I know is for Sanders, although we're so late in the process it is not likely to make a difference.
Either way I hope that folks like Blumenauer or Merkeley or Newsom can leverage enough power to get a pro-legalization plank into the platform, if for no other reason than to see Debbie "medical marijuana users belong in prison" Wasserman Schultz's face.
fun n serious
(4,451 posts)I am super happy about marijuana being legal here now and I do not use, never have. I honestly do not know Debbie Wasserman Schultzs position on pot. I am glad it's legal for recreational use now. That is my position. I'm glad we are looking into exonerating previous pot convictions too.
Warren DeMontague
(80,708 posts)Law.
She also has repeatedly voted for criminalization not just of recreational marijuana, but also medical.
Anyway, that was one of the big reasons she lost my confidence.
fun n serious
(4,451 posts)If this ad is true, then she needs to go!! Locally, I have seen great progress already in the legalization of pot. I'll give you one example... In East Portland the police would randomly detain young men for nothing more than walking to catch a bus or go to the store, search them and if they had pot.. that gave cops an easy arrest. There is an FBI probe into that BTW... That has nearly stopped almost over night!

All bank transactions are digitized.
I don't think Texas will ever legalize marijuana.
Well, not until the Supreme Court strikes down all of those laws on the books against it.
And that could take years and years.
