Related: About this forumSen. Patrick Leahy (VT) is a superdelegate
He has promised his support to HRC. He insists that no matter how his state votes, his support remains with HRC, because he promised it and he is keeping his word.
Is that a good thing? I'm very conflicted about this. Are superdelegates supposed to take into consideration what the rest of their state thinks, or do they just get to do whatever they want with their vote(s)? It doesn't seem right, to me.

(1,192 posts)He basically said he would go against the will of his constituents. What he's doing is antithetical to democracy. Vermonters should demand answers from him. It's as simple as that.

This situation, in VT, is the perfect example of why superdelegates are an insane concept.
HereSince1628
(36,063 posts)they exist to provide professional politicians super-influence within the democratic party.
And so they do.

My understanding is Hillary extracted these promises from people even before she let the public know she was going to run. First, she got all her little duckies in a row.
Dammit. I used to like this guy.
People wonder why Elizabeth Warren has not endorsed. Look at what these endorsements do. One completely alienates the other half of the party.
Wanna see what happens when a superdelegate makes a fool of himself ...

I never thought I'd be mad at Patrick Leahy. This whole thing has really shown the true (purchased) colors of the party, hasn't it?

AFAIK the superdelegates can support whoever they like.

(16,189 posts)And if you're going to ask whether we the people were aware of these rules when we registered as Democrats (thirty five years ago, in my case), superdelegates didn't exist then.
