2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumCalling a race before the polls close supresses votes.
This is why many of us are balking at the "the primaries are over" narrative being pushed. This thing isn't friggin' over yet!
And for any Hillary supporters who think she's inevitable and just want to be able to declare victory and shut us Bernie supporters up and move on: this hurts you too!!! Contested races mean people are interested! They mean voters are getting registered by the campaigns. They mean new people are getting involved. YOU. WANT. THAT. FOR. NOVEMBER!!!

(17,796 posts)which they find unacceptable. They want to choke off the primary ASAP and then try to gin up enough fear to get through the general election since this is the only path that leads to a Hillary Presidency.

The same holds true for the Republican Party.

That's how far to the right our own party has been dragged in the last couple of decades. I'm completely convinced at this point, and I've been voting for almost forty years.

(7,820 posts)You heard the calls for wrapping things up early in the beginning. What party leaders eventually realized though was that the excitement of the contested race was bringing people in.

(11,546 posts)during those primaries I remember lots of people here encouraging others to get out and vote.

(193 posts)I too was one of those urging her to drop out. Math is math and I wanted to be prepared for the general. Maybe it was happening here (I wasn't here at the time) but not elsewhere. Every where I went Hillary was public enemy # 1 for not dropping. I won't even start with how the media treated her.

(18,402 posts)And they were right. And it was much closer then than it is in this 2016 race. And yes, that caused many to suggest Clinton to exit. It didn't stop turnout for either candidate.

Imagine how scary it must be to the establishment to consider that they may not end up with a horse in the GE on either side. Desperate times require desperate measures.

(11,546 posts)and we cannot fall for it. I think we really need to get the word out on social media that this race is closer than the MSM and Hillary's people and supporters are claiming. Reach out to friends/family and any groups that we belong to.

(30,481 posts)Very few calls for that to end.
Suppressing the vote by way of image control is a time honored tradition as well.
