They were discussing the upcoming debate and President Obama's lackluster performance in the first one . Reed said " In their first fight in 1971 Joe Frazier knocked down Muhammad Ali in the fifteenth round and won the decision. However Ali came back to win the second and third fights. History remembers winners."
He is a great advocate for the president. Jennifer Granholm is as well but Reed is more forceful, more plain spoken, and consequently more effective.
Thank you, Mr. Reed.
You are awesome.

I agree with that, too.

(11,344 posts)The second fight was basically an exhibition and a bore.
The Thrilla in Manilla was a fantastic fight, one for the ages, very nearly a fight to the death and produced two exhausted fighters. Ali almost quit after the 11th round.
Let's hope it doesn't come to that.

(99,710 posts)Ali forced Joe Frazier to fight his fight. Ali would stick and move and whenever the diminutive Frazier tried to get inside he would tie him up, negating his biggest asset. If Ali fights that fight in their first fight he wins and doesn't suffer as much physical damage. In the Thrilla
the Frazier camp cried to the refs so Ali couldn't hold as much. But he was able to somewhat compensate by just keeping his left extended.
I liked how big George Foreman solved the Frazier conundrum by essentially just shoving him back whenever he tried to get inside. It worked to devastating effect.
Joe Frazier was a great fighter but his diminutive stature put him at a disadvantage to larger fighters.
