2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumDid you see Jane Sanders on CNN a day or so ago.
She doesn't sound like a politician or a politician's wife. She speaks the truth that many wish she probably wouldn't have spoken. That's a genuine person for you...not politically polished.
BUT:
Did you hear what she said about Russell Simmons after he endorsed Hillary and attacked Bernie?
It's quite surprising. He had called Bernie first to discuss an endorsement. Bernie had trouble about pushing people not to eat their bacon and pork so it did not work out. Simmons is vegan, which is fine.
Some say she should not have said it, but the interviewer pointedly asked her about it. I think it is the kind of honesty our party has been missing.
I appreciate because I tend to be outspoken as well.

(13,871 posts)Actually, I don't think that at all about her, but there is a long thread here with the premise that is a shameful and unprecedented event that Bill Clinton is campaigning for his wife.
If you get a chance, stop by that thread and tell them you disagree with their argument.

(51,571 posts)Campaigning for Bernie appears to be her only job at the moment. Why do you think she agreed to give that interview? It was free airtime to push for Bernie.
No, senz, the "yuuuuggge" difference is we are fine with women pushing their husband's candidacy, but some here find men pushing their wife's candidacy "creepy."
senz
(11,945 posts)She accompanies her husband to his rallies and debates, quietly gives him moral support, and on RARE occasion grants an interview.
So don't you misrepresent her.
And please do not drag sex and gender into this. THAT ploy is getting very old and tiresome. As a woman, I have come to resent it.

She was not sitting with Bernie (an "unaccompanied woman"-- gasp!) for this CNN bit:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1251&pid=1427613
Or this cringeworthy bit she did with Chris Hayes:
http://www.shakesville.com/2016/03/whoa-jane-sanders-interview-with-chris.html?m=1
And to suggest that Jane's campaigning is not "creepy" because she is always accompanied by her husband conjures up some pretty sexist stereotypes.

(23,350 posts)... there were some objections to him campaigning at a polling place, preventing people from voting while his secret service detail blocked the doors.
It's like when a mafia don blocks the supermarket aisle with his cart. Nobody likes it, but nobody can do anything about it, except mumble that it's not fair.

(8,352 posts)The problem was the snit fit he threw after Sanders refused to pander and lie to get his endorsement. The problem is that he believe Clinton's pandering and lies. The further problem is that he gave into the quid pro quo and scratched Clinton's back by going on the new shows and lying about Sanders and minority issues with ZERO facts just insinuations.

What a refreshingly honest response in a political campaign context!
This is just the second time I've had a chance to hear her speak about the issues or the campaign. Very nice. thanks again.

I found it downright bizarre that Russell Simmons would say, on national television, that the deal breaker for him was the fact that Bernie´s not vegan (and I´m vegan!).
Is Hillary, after all? Probably not.

(872 posts)On the other hand, Hillary is paying herself a quarter mil a year from campaign donations:
http://www.independentsentinel.com/hillary-clinton-uses-campaign-donations-to-pay-herself-a-lot-of-money/
Happily for the Clintons, who described themselves as "dead broke" when they left the White House, they are now worth over 100 million dollars, so Hill really needs to spend the donations that way.

(88,117 posts)I am not sure what Simmons demanded of Bernie, just that it had to do with meat production and veganism. But he certainly wasted no time attacking him publicly...then saying he didn't have time to explain why.
SunSeeker
(51,571 posts)She accuses Simmons of simply parroting "Clinton talking points" when he said Sanders is not sensitive to the issues of the African American community. That is incredibly insulting to Simmons, suggesting he does not have his own thoughts. She basically proved Simmons' point!
Then, she suggests, without any evidence, that the real reason Simmons endorsed Hillary is because Hillary agreed to stop "livestock farming." That is ridiculous on it's face.
I find nothing "honest" or endearing about her in this interview.

(51,571 posts)What did I say that is inaccurate?
I did not say that was all she said. She also threw some mud Hillary's way, including suggesting Hillary tells people what they want to hear, while Bernie doesnt that. Of course, she's wrong about that do too. Just check out that revolting interview Sanders gave to Lou Dobbs when he was against Kennedy's 2007 Immigration Reform bill.
