Let's all be kind to each other while watching together! Knives down, popcorn and beers out, people.
May the best party win!
From Flint Michigan.
"Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders go head-to-head Sunday in a CNN Democratic debate certain to focus on racial barriers and economic fairness but that will above all be defined by the toxic water crisis afflicting its host city, Flint, Michigan.
The former secretary of state and the Vermont senator, who are locked in a monthslong duel for the Democratic nomination, will use the debate starting at 8 p.m. ET to court minority and working-class voters ahead of Michigan's primary on Tuesday."
8-10 PM- It is on CNN and CNN International, as well as:

(47,209 posts)clearly not what this country should be about.
The Gov sold understand his dereliction of duty was irresponsible, he sold resign. But mor importantly what is happening here, is happening across this country.....wealth inequality. Communities struggling to create basic services, crumbling infrastructure. No more tax breaks for millionaires.
Well said!

"progressive liberalisation" is the one way street to privatization, as well as - at least many other nations have been convinced of this - a path to a glittering ElDorado.
Countries have to open up.

(4,667 posts)Is it spending by a government entity? Federal, state or local?
I dont know the specifics but you likely could find out at the WTO site.
If it employs only US workers, without going through competitive bidding first, I think that may not be allowed any more..
After some date, they likely would be required to use the WTO revised GPA (government procurement agreement) e-tendering portal to request bids.. So in theory at least, companies from any other WTO member likely could bid on the work.
If they don't, depending on various factors as far as minimum amounts, time its done, etc, even if it was considered to be okay when they drew it up, last week things may have changed, because of the solar panel victory against India, the US got the bad WTO to rue that hiring just your own countries workers is forbidden..
So it MAY violate that recent WTO ruling. Since its government spending. Is it? (I dont have CNN)
Same thing with health care. Globalization is on the way. Thats why we cant have good things, what would ideology do.
There you have the problem i a nutshell.. regardless who wins, or why, if any of the pending deals- especially the one in Geneva, gets a yes hereWTO lock-in may make things like stimulating the economy locally, and affordable healthcare even more difficult - basically impossible soon, because those rights have been promised away in exchange for 20 years of privatization in other countries.
India, just gave up the right to education. So obviously, they are casting heir lot with Hillary.
Its a whole new world - the coming services liberalisation.

(67,817 posts)I will happily vote for either one. Neither is perfect, but either one will get my vote.
I lean toward Sanders, but only slightly.
Sanders holds views most closely aligned with mine.
Clinton is the singularly most "qualified on Day One" presidential candidate, of either party or either gender, to stand for the office.
I abhor the silly primary posturing of the rabid fans of BOTH candidates. Look around. Look at the other side. LOOK.
Go Hillary! Go Bernie!

(24,979 posts)Was the auto industry bailout specified as a part of the Wall Street bailout? I remember that the bailout was approved and then Obama chose to redirect some of the money to Detroit. Was there specific legislation on it?

(9,314 posts)http://www.vpr.net/news_detail/83206/leahy-sanders-reluctantly-support-auto-industry-rescue
(Host) Vermont's two U.S. Senators, Patrick Leahy and Bernie Sanders, say they're reluctantly supporting a $15 billion rescue package for the nation's auto industry.
Both senators say that allowing Ford, General Motors or Chrylser to fall into bankruptcy could affect a lot of auto related jobs in Vermont.
* * *
Senator Bernie Sanders voted against the $700 billion bail out of the financial services industry but he says this package is different:
(Sanders) "The problem is if you don't act in the midst of a growing recession what does it mean to create a situation where millions of more people become unemployed and that could spread and I have serious concerns about that I think it would be a terrible idea to add millions more to the unemployment rolls."

(11,833 posts)We have two outstanding candidates. They debated vigorously and fairly. They are talking specifically about how to help Americans. I believe they would both do an excellent job. Personally I have no idea why anyone wouldn't vote for the democratic candidate for president over the republican candidate for president.
Thanks for hosting this thread bettyellen. And to all the nice people who participated in the spirit of good will.
