Newsmax/Zogby Poll: Obama 47%, Romney 44%

10/14/2012 @ 7:31 PM

A NewsmaxZogby Poll of 863 likely voters taken on Friday and Saturday show President Barack Obama in a dead heat with GOP challenger Governor Mitt Romney – Obama 47% to Romney 44%. Nine percent are undecided. The nationwide online poll has a margin of error of +/-3.4 points.

The joint venture between the Florida-based publisher and the New York State-based pollster will feature tracking polls in Ohio, Florida, Virginia and nationally right up to Election Day.

The President continues to poll solidly among Democrats (88%-7%), Hispanics (62%-30%), African Americans (95%-1%), women (51%40%), Catholics (53%-42%), liberals (91%-5%), and moderates (56%-29%).

Mr. Romney is doing very well among Republicans (86%-9%), voters over 65 (58%-35%), men (49%-43%), evangelicals (62%-28%), married voters (50%-40%), conservatives (77%-18%), and investors (56%-39%). He has opened up a lead among weekly Wal-Mart Shoppers (50%-39%).

The President still needs to worry about reduced support among young voters. While he leads by 22 points (58%-36%), that is well below his 66%-30% victory in 2008. His meager lead of 49% to 45% among the very important Creative Class can also hurt him. Economist and author Richard Florida has identified the economic and social importance of these knowledge sector leaders. Their support for Mr. Obama in 2008 was crucial in such states as Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, and Colorado – helping to turn those previously red states into blue states.

2. I know some people don't like Zogby polls

But who cares about that. We need as many positive National polls as we can right now.

unreliable polls. Sadly, the pollsters are even using Gravis.

I mean, what's a poll suppose to tell us about the race when it samples 7 percent young voters and 66 percent seniors?

That's what I said above.

Some people may not like Zogby polls, but any poll that shows Obama ahead is a good thing right now.

We need to start influencing the polling narrative like the GOP did last week.

3. next debate will be crucial

If he does well in the next 2 debates he should be in good shape. If he has a repeat of Oct 3, I don't see this ending well. Well, really the next debate is key as another bad debate and it could be too late by the time of the 3rd debate. So , a good 2nd debate and then a good 3rd debate should leave him in good shape.

There was no need for it to even be this close. All he needed was a good 1st debate and this would have been over by now. But what happened, happened.

So now he just needs to come back and deliver on Tuesday. And, in the final analysis if he has 2 bad debates in a row against a weak candidate like Romney and can't stand up to him then maybe he doesn't deserve to win.

He has a great campaign staff. Axelrod, Plouffe, Cutter, Messina, Burton et al will do their jobs. They've done them extremely well this whole campaign. Biden did his job. Again, if Obama didn't choke 10 days ago this would have been over by now.

At this point we need to have confidence in him. He's always delivered and he knows another bad debate and his political career is finished in 3 weeks. I don't see that happening. Just can't see his story ending that way.

Biden did what he had to do to in pointing out their negatives, Obama's real screw up the first time around. Hammer 'em hard President Obama and show strength. You represent millions of us out here who are ready to kick Rethuglican ass and take names.

7. Online Poll

. . . so it may not be that useful, and Zogby has no cred, really. However, better to be ahead even from a garbage pollster than behind. I'm surprised that Mittens couldn't win an online poll like this, particularly given the ridiculious responses "scoring" Biden and Lyan's debate responses.
