2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhen do you think Colin Powell will make his endorsement?
Not that I'm the biggest fan of Colin Powell, being that he was a member of the Bush Administration and all, but the reality is that an endorsement from him would be a good sign to Independents and moderates etc.
In 2008, Powell's endorsement didn't have much effect since Obama was on track to winning decisively, but in a year like 2012 where the race is much closer Nationally and in some of the swing states, it could provide a good moment for Obama.
All the votes will matter and if Powell can send a message to moderates that the Romney crew, particularly on foreign policy, are extreme, it might help. Would also get some positive media coverage for the Obama campaign.

(32,009 posts)He will wait until there is a clear leader this year. He wants to be invited to all of the right parties in D.C.

(4,608 posts)I don't give a damn. And a hat tip to Rhett Butler. I have zero respect for Colin Powell. His endorsement, if anything, would carry negative weight/onus for me.
