Clinton Portrays Herself as a Pro-Gun Churchgoer

Clinton Portrays Herself as a Pro-Gun Churchgoer
By JULIE BOSMAN APRIL 12, 2008

Hillary Rodham Clinton - The Caucus - Politics - New York Times Blog

VALPARAISO, Ind. – Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton managed to co-opt Mr. Obama’s message of hope and optimism, beginning a speech in Valparaiso, Ind., by talking about how positive and “fundamentally optimistic” Americans are.

“We don’t get bogged down and looking back – we’re always looking forward,” she said, as heavy applause nearly drowned out her words. “Whatever obstacle we see, we get over it. Whatever challenge we have, we meet it. We’re the problem-solvers, we’re the innovators, we’re the people who make the better future.”

...snip...

“I disagree with Senator Obama’s assertion that people in our country cling to guns and have certain attitudes about immigration or trade simply out of frustration,” she said.

She described herself as a pro-gun churchgoer, recalling that her father taught her how to shoot a gun when she was a young girl and said that her faith “is the faith of my parents and my grandparents.”

And from CNN
...“You know, my dad took me out behind the cottage that my grandfather built on a little lake called Lake Winola outside of Scranton and taught me how to shoot when I was a little girl,” she said.

“You know, some people now continue to teach their children and their grandchildren. It’s part of culture. It’s part of a way of life. People enjoy hunting and shooting because it’s an important part of who they are. Not because they are bitter.”

Minutes later, in a slightly awkward moment, Clinton faced a question from a woman in the audience whose son had been paralyzed by a gunshot. The woman asked Clinton what she would do about gun control as president.

Clinton touted her husband's record on gun control during his administration, and said "there is not a contradiction between protecting Second Amendment rights" and the effort to reduce crime.

1. Hillary Clinton on GUN VIOLENCE PROTECTION

Hillary will:

1. Strengthen background checks and close dangerous loopholes in the current system.
2. Hold irresponsible dealers and manufacturers accountable.
3. Keep guns out of the hands of terrorists, domestic abusers, other violent criminals, and the severely mentally ill.

“I don’t know how we keep seeing shooting after shooting, read about the people murdered because they went to Bible study or they went to the movies or they were just doing their job, and not finally say we’ve got to do something about this.”

While gun ownership is part of the fabric of many law-abiding communities, too many families in America have suffered from gun violence. About 33,000 Americans are killed by guns each year. That is unacceptable. It is a rebuke to this nation we love.

That’s why Hillary supports sensible action to address gun violence, including comprehensive background checks, cracking down on illegal gun traffickers, holding dealers and manufacturers accountable when they endanger Americans, and keeping guns out of the hands of domestic abusers and stalkers.

Not quite the same thing, although after seeming years of being unable to tell the difference between truth and deception, it is understandable if you cannot now. I know you are very sincere and mean well.

8. Which position is the truth, Hortensis?

That is what everyone wants to know. I read a report that she just had a fund raiser with the NRA, can you provide any details on what the NRA is doing providing direct funding for Hillary's campaign?

ask why the NRA is giving money to an enemy? These people aren't simple minded. They are working deep, long-established strategies that were developed centuries before any of us came along. Heck, they were undoubtedly ancient in the days of Alexander the Great.

Why are the NRA and Wall Street donating to someone who has been an enemy even as they donate far more to the other side to defeat her?

Don't be simple minded. Think.

Let's make a slight edit for clarity;
"how come you guys don't ask why the NRA is giving money to a supposed enemy?"

That's the question I asked you. Do you have an answer?
