While Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson is still only a blip in the polls, the New York Times notes he "is on the ballot in every state except Michigan and Oklahoma, enjoys the support of a few small 'super PACs' and is trying to tap into the same grass-roots enthusiasm that helped build Rep. Ron Paul a big following. And with polls showing the race between President Obama and Mitt Romney to be tight, Mr. Johnson's once-fellow Republicans are no longer laughing."

"Around the country, Republican operatives have been making moves to keep Mr. Johnson from becoming their version of Ralph Nader, the Green Party candidate whose relatively modest support cut into Al Gore's 2000 vote arguably enough to help hand the decisive states of Ohio and Florida to George W. Bush."

I have a hard time imagining Paul's hard-core supporters just swallowing all the insults to their candidate from the GOP and placidly voting for Romney.

They really pissed off the Paul supporters, and I am betting the a huge number of Paul supporters vote for Johnson, or at least don't vote for Romney.

More of a threat to Obama. Johnson wants to legalize Marijuana. Obama has been dragging his feet on that issue. The local pot shop I go to has Johnson flyers in their shop. Not a smart move IMO. If Rmoney wins, all the shops WILL be closed.

I saw a bunch of Gary Johnson supporters near my neighborhood over the weekend. They were congregated in the neutral ground of a very busy commercial area. This is an area frequently staked out by the anti-abortion crowd.

Every single one of the Gary Johnson supporters was white and, surprisingly YOUNG! Like in their twenties. I guess they finally gave up on Ron Paul?!? I assumed Johnson's people would be older, white voters.

As long as they take away votes from rMoney, who cares?!?

and will likely end up voting for Johnson, one of two men with a lick of sense on their primary debate state. The other, Huntsman, just decided the whole third party thing was too much trouble.

Johnson was the governor here for two terms and while I don't agree with much he says, he did speak out against the drug war while in office and he didn't screw up the state.

That makes him one hell of a lot better than Romney, right there.

I still see a lot of Paul signs in yards in my part of PA. If I still had mine it would be out. Personally I am torn between Obama and doing a Paul write in. Romney's pro war stance and disrespect towards Paul severely pissed off me and other Paul supporters.( I actually started hanging around here to see if I could support Obama or not.)

They want to get rid of the Federal Reserve and stop the wars.

Those are good goals, but the rest of the Libertarian platform, which they seem to ignore, is really awful.

They are right about the Federal Reserve. We need a different system to manage our currency and banks.

The Federal Reserve was a sort of way to assuage the bankers after anti-trust law and other Gilded-Age-busting legislation was passed.

The Federal Reserve has serve us and needs to go.

And unlike the smarmy assholish personality of today's average republican, Gary Johnson is actually likeable. I knew it would be a matter of time before he'd go Libertarian. He talked about legalizing weed too much for the NM GOP's comfort.

He's on the ballot in my current state of VA, along with Virgil Goode.

May they both do significant damage to the GOP.
