And one of the reasons why I could never vote for Hillary Clinton.
The banks took trillions of dollars from the tax payers. Did the banks bailout one tax payer that couldn't make their house payment? Did the banks bailout one credit card customer that couldn't make their payments? No never.
We gave trillions of dollars to billionaires and then allowed them to take the homes of the workers and ruin the lives of the average citizens that were struggling to just get by.
We the tax payers spent billions to bailout GM and Chrysler but did GMAC or Chrysler financial forgive any auto loans? Did they stop any repossessions of the cars people needed to get to work and pay their bills? No never.
Wall Street scammed us. Bernie Sanders was smart enough to say NO! Hillary Clinton followed right behind Bush just like she did with the Iraq war. She gave her unquestioning support for the biggest thieves in the history of our country. And people still support her. She is unfit to hold office because her record makes it clear where her loyalties are.
Vote Bernie Sanders the only candidate that has the judgment to do what is right for the People! not what is right for Wall Street.

Anyway, according to his book, Geithner got good advice from Clinton. The former president advised him to press for tax hikes on the rich, but to "make sure I didn't look like I was happy about it." Then Clinton added that Timmy shouldn't take the public-anger thing too hard:
"You could take Lloyd Blankfein in an alley and slit his throat, and it would satisfy them for about two days," Clinton said. "Then the blood lust would rise again."
Ordinary people aren't just overemotional and dumb, they're also zombies! They don't have grievances, just blood lusts.
The attitude shared by Lloyd and Geithner and Bill Clinton is that the mindless quality of public discontent means that there's no point in worrying about it, or negotiating with it. This is funny because Blankfein is the one complaining that people like Sanders and his followers don't want to compromise with him.
...
The former president told Geithner that slitting Lloyd's throat would only satisfy "them" for about two days. Them was all those pissed-off regular people, and the we or us were politicians like himself and Geithner.

(1,772 posts)1. Where do you get trillions of dollars? TARP was only about $700b, and it was more than repaid. The only companies that we lost money on TARP were the car companies.
2. Yes banks and servicers participated in principal forgiveness programs, for example under HAMP. Also many borrowers stayed rent free in their homes for a few years after they stopped paying their mortgages.

(1,662 posts)$700 billion interest free is worth trillions.
You actually think they paid it back. These billionaires try not to even pay their taxes.
Millions of people still lost their homes and their cars after tarp passed. All tarp did was cover the bad bets for billionaires and maintained a rigged economy where the parasitic rich live off the hard work of the people of this country.
