2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSeriously, my hat off to the Sanders campaign.
I didn't see it coming though I should have, I think the biggest problem, in hindsight, was polling a primary when there hadn't been a contested Democratic primary there since 1992. Also in hindsight, it should have been too surprising as Jesse jackson won the Michigan caucus in 1988.

(58,794 posts)I used to crossover in Michigan primaries all the tie to make mischief for Republicans and wonder how man Dems saw the polls and decided to put Trump over the top assuming Hillary was cruising.

(4,797 posts)However polls have been off in many states this year by 10 percent or more, including in states where the polls were much tighter than they were in Michigan.

(6,346 posts)A young progressive NOT on social media who kind of liked Sanders but hadn't heard terribly much about him (not watching political shows much) crossed over to the Republican side to vote for Cruz in order to stop Trump, who he had heard lots about.
Low info voter, I know...

(47,803 posts)I preferred Jackson in 1998, but your attempt to marginalize Sanders prospects by comparison are not quire accurate.
Jackson won 11 contests: seven primaries (Alabama, the District of Columbia, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Puerto Rico and Virginia) and four caucuses (Delaware, Michigan, South Carolina and Vermont)
If you'll notice the states, the comparison might be more apt with the pattern of Clinton.

(42,862 posts)Please, NO excuses, no conspiracy theories, no accusations of fraud, no attacks, no smears, no insulting voters, no insulting states or regions, no paternalistic criticism of POC, no blaming of the media... as supporter of Hillary Clinton, we are better than that and should always try to set a good example with regard to the proper way to handle a loss.
I say "loss", but of course, we all know it was a "virtual tie". (Oh, I kid!)
I'm very pleased that for the night, Hillary received the most DELEGATES and pulls even FURTHER AHEAD of Bernie!
Go, Hillary! We love you!
