2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSo Bernie supports the Stealth bomber, is an admirer of Fidel Castro, and protected the Minutemen?
Can you imagine if Hillary had these kinds of stands, how the white "left" would rip her apart. Not saying that Bernie is bad, just let's put things in perspective -- he's more progressive than Hillary but he's a career politician who, like Hillary, has made some poor choices in his career.

MANCHESTER, New Hampshire Sen. Bernie Sanders has railed against big defense corporations at rallies, but he has a more complex history with the military-industrial complex. Most notably, hes supported a $1.2 trillion stealth fighter thats considered by many to be one of the bigger boondoggles in Pentagon history.

A 31-year-old videotaped interview has been drudged up in which a young Bernie Sanders heaps praise on Cuba's communist dictator Fidel Castro.
Sanders, mayor of Burlington, Vermont at the time and now the state's independent senator seeking the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, made the remarks in an interview on a local public access channel, the CCTV Center for Media & Democracy in Burlington.

A few months before Democrats swept the 2006 elections, an outcry raged in the fringier corners of the immigration debate. Treasonous American officials were tipping off the Mexican government about the whereabouts of Minutemen patrols, the argument went, making it impossible for the private army bent on preventing undocumented immigrants from crossing the border to do their jobs.
The outcry made it to Congress, where Georgia Rep. Jack Kingston, a Republican, introduced an amendment clearly directed at the Minutemen story. The amendment barred the Department of Homeland Security from providing a foreign government information relating to the activities of an organized volunteer civilian action group, operating in the State of California, Texas, New Mexico, or Arizona.
Kingstons amendment overwhelmingly passed the Republican-controlled Congress, including the votes of 76 Democrats, most of them from the partys then-strong Blue Dog conservative wing. Another person voted for the measure, too: Rep. Bernie Sanders, an independent in the midst of the campaign that would send him the U.S. Senate.

(7,300 posts)You just run with the Red Scare tactics. It's 1950 all over again.
Coincidence
(98 posts)Boomers have been trying to pass the red scare down to new generations my entire life, and they assume that everyone is on the same page as them, but young people don't understand and don't care about the irrational fears of old people because they didn't have red panic burned into their brain daily throughout their childhood.
Millennials have made it clear that they're not terrified in the least by the word "socialism", and that extends to gen-x as well. The cold war ended ~25 years ago, you'd have to be at least 35-40 years old to remember anything significant about it at all. Hell, I'm 40 and all I remember of the time was that Yakov Smirnoff was funny and Chernobyl was bad, nobody talked to kids about foreign policy in the 80's!
Yet I see it regularly, there is still this presumption that everyone still shares a fear that the commies are coming for our freedom. It's way past time to retire the Red Guard.

(643 posts)According to Hillary in the debate last night, the Koch brothers and Bernie are fast friends. That's right, Hillary, friend of the frackers, had the audacity to try to tie Sanders to the Koch brothers. It's a flat out lie, she knows it, yet she still said it, assuming that voters would be too stupid to realize it. That's the kind of respect she has for Sanders and for democratic voters. And I'm supposed to supporter her if she wins the nomination?

(1,377 posts)It meant nothing and did nothing. It was a amendment on a bill, do you not understand what that is? Basically let's say we have a bill that give VA money to increase the PTSD programs. So some Republican comes up and adds a amendment onto that bill that said "Post office is not allowed to sell Alcohol " would you now vote no on that bill? This is same thing that amendment did.
For Christ sake it is even in hit job you posted.
I claim the time in opposition; but, Mr. Chairman, I dont rise in opposition, he said. He said Customs officials had told him they already didnt share information with the Mexican government except for where required by treaty.
If people want to put it in the bill, I guess that is okay because it apparently does nothing, he quipped.

(1,301 posts)Both statements are equally credible (i.e. equally false). The difference is, only ONE of the candidates is willing to bring up obvious bullshit of such a low caliber in front of an audience.

Protected by Minutemen? Where the hell did you come up with that one? Even Hillary didn't say that and she was lying her ass off last night.

Hillary went ahead and did weapons deals with Saudi Arabia who flowed cash to the Clinton Foundation
Next up, why was Hillary pandering to the NRA and its members when she ran against Obama in 2008?
Next up, you bring up Castro. I'll bring up Hugo Chavez.
What else ya got?
