2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumNPR on politics a few minutes ago; Hillary in Tampa
On All Things Considered as I was out in the car. First, a preview of tonight's Republican debate. Then, a short piece on Hillary campaigning today in Tampa in front of a crowd of 1200 (the Tampa paper says the crowd was "about 600"; the seating capacity for the venue is 600 theater style or 1114 standing room). They played a clip of her talking about Florida's governor Rick Scott telling environmental regulators not to use the term "climate change" and turning down federal money for high speed rail between Tampa and Orlando. They said despite having a big lead in the Florida polls against Democratic rival Bernie Sanders, Hillary was campaigning in Florida.
There was no mention by NPR that Bernie is doing 3 events today in Florida to much larger crowds.
The Tampa paper online said Hillary spoke for 26 minutes.

(79 posts)...over the course of 40 minutes (8:05 - 8:45) Bernie was mentioned twice, solely in the capacity that he is Hillary's competitor. On the other hand, three different clips of Hillary speeches were played and one Hillary surrogate joined the broadcast to gush about what an eminently qualified candidate HRC is. Surrogate also noted that while D-men play R-men in softball, women are natural consensus builders because R+D-women join together on a softball team to play the press corps. Thus, Hillary for President. Thankfully, NPR did not forget to recycle the "Democratic turnout is low" meme! I was nervous there for a second Bob Seay and Steve Inskeep making sure the 617 gets the straight poop from their local public media!

(598 posts)I arrived at the Silver Spurs Arena about an hour and a half before Bernie arrived. I could get no where near the stage. Found a spot in the corner outside the main crowd. Here's Bernie. Sorry for the poor video...
