2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI was a single mom..
And I was able to raise two children that turned out pretty damned awesome! I didn't have to worry that I would wake up on the middle of the night with the police carting them home. I didn't have to go to the hospital to find them shot or OD'd. Why? Because I was HOME being a parent.
I was a single mom who went to work every day earning (at that time - 1990) on 22k salary and very little support from my ex.
Single moms can (and dads) - go figure- raise children without the influence of a really horrible spouse that would provide a terrible example of what decency, ethics and morality is.
I could say more, but I'd be preaching to the choir.
This is obviously a really sore point with me..

(8,492 posts)My son will be 30 in about a month (omg). He fought hard to get through high school with ADD, and graduated with a B average. He also worked during his last two years of high school and (despite my objections) would help out with food, gas and 'extras'. After high school he had a fantastic job at Lexus. He then spent 8 years as a Marine. While stationed in Okinawa, fell in love with and married the best DIL a mother could ask for. He 'retired' from the Marines in May. He's now working a full time job and going to school full time. He still manages to keep his credit rating stellar, still hasn't ended up in jail or on crack, is still freakishly happily married after 5 years and some rough times and still calls his mom once a week.
Screw you, Romney.
Oh, and we may be the choir, but we're a damned proud choir.
To your son.
Mine spent two tours in Iraq. I'm just happy he is still alive.

(8,492 posts)I've talked to moms and dads that aren't as lucky. Painful conversations.
Thank you to your son and you.

(2,338 posts)Essentially abandoned his kids. He has a military retirement AND an SES salary, yet claimed poverty while I made barely 22k a year (1993). He actually thought that $250/mo support would be enough to support two kids. Thank god for the family judicial court.
Pretty sure he will be voting red this year.
He even wanted my kids to use the money given to them for Christmas to help pay for a ski trip with him one particular January. I didn't let that happen.
Sounds way to familiar to Mitten's plan for helping the poor. I got it good...now give me what little you have in your bucket so I don't need to dip into my lake.
Guess there is no question why I'm not married to this...uhm...person.... anymore.
