2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumREAL democrats need an Underground now, more than ever.
It's a shame this place is going to become a place that enforces a Diet- Republican only way of thinking. It's shame that what the place started as, is no longer what it is going to be if(lets be honest now, its going to be when) Hillary get the nomination.
The democratic party is dead. Long live the progressives.

(28,876 posts)I can't spend 4 more years defending the destruction of this country.
I imagine there will be a good number of exiles from Kos who might start something. I'm done until at least December though.
In reality, as soon as Trump has the primary locked, he's going to go so hard center that you'll barely be able to tell the difference between he and Hillary...besides he's not a Clinton and he doesn't support cancerous trade agreements.
Do you think DU would ban us if we came back to say 'I told you so'?

(36,418 posts)DU is still a motley collection of outliers and malcontents. Too diverse and stubborn to train to march in straight ranks. This place will be okay. I am worried about the Party, though.

(14,915 posts)Its still here, but much like the republicans in 08, we're a dead party looking for a soul.

(6,852 posts)I am a HRC supporter and I am a real Democrat.
I volunteered on my first campaign when I was 13. The second I turned 18 I registered as a Democrat. I am now 28 so I have been a Democrat for 10 years.
I am more of a Democrat then Bernie Sanders will ever be.

(6,238 posts)Face it, Hillary is nothing more than a moderate conservative. Of course, the democratic party is nothing more than a center-right party these days so I guess you'll fit right in.

Bernie supporters don't get do decide who is a real progressive.

(6,238 posts)Those are just so me of the progressive values your candidate opposes.

(6,852 posts)He voted to dump his states nuclear waste on a low income community in Texas.
In terms of single-payer health care no one explains how you would get a law like that through congress.
He voted to allow guns on Amtrak, He voted to give legal immunity for gun makers. No other industry in the country get that kind of treatment.
He voted against the Brady Bill.
Sanders isn't pure on "Progressive issues either."
And I disagree with Hillary on the death penalty.
On issues like the minimum wage hike Hillary supports $12 an hour with options for states to raise it higher. At 12 and hour it amounts to $9,880 more a year in peoples pockets. Which would make a huge difference.
I am sick and tired of the people who project the need for ideological purity. I never once voted for a candidate that I agreed with on 100% of the issues. I usually agree with the candidate I support in 80% of the issues.

I am proud to be a progressive. As I noted early I just don't believe in unicorns.
This post earlier sums it up.

(36,418 posts)You have to have unrepeatable moments and some pain before you can claim a corner of the place for yourself and your own. Like shaking hands with JFK from the top of your Dad's shoulders. The night Reagan was elected and having George Bush Sr. pop up from the limo sunroof to give you and the other demonstrators at the Inauguration the finger. Jab, jab, jab two thumbs up. Yes, he really did hate us. Things that carry you through the dark days and back into the dawn. Those have to earned, sometimes the hard way.

(6,852 posts)Thought that was the dig against Sanders supporters.
Demographically I fit the definition a Sanders voter to a T.
I am a 28 year old white male who went to the University of Vermont.
And yet I support Hillary.

(22,336 posts)We're more liberal than the Democratic Party as a whole. "Real Democrats" include the rest of the party too.
I don't often have candidates to vote for who are as progressive as I am. Bernie was an anomaly as far as that goes. I do think the Democratic Party will have to take notice to how much success Bernie has had. I'm hopeful that future elections will have more progressive candidates because they'll know they have a shot.

(15,435 posts)no way that this makes any sense to me. A man who goes out and raises more money than anyone running, has thousands and thousands of people at rally after rally all the time, and THIS happens?
I'm supposed to believe that people just sat home? Too much to believe. I KNOW what I see and hear in my part of the world, even people I NEVER thought would even consider voting for a Democrat have told me they support Bernie!!!
People just donate money and rally for him and he loses?? He has had momentum for such a long time, has the REAL TRUTH on his side and Americans have been so excited about him, and he loses???
I'm sure NOTHING will ever be able to be proved, but I have a very bitter taste in my mouth and just as I knew WAY BACK in 2000 that Bush didn't win, I feel the same thing now.
It may take years, but I'll never believe this. Sure, sounds like I'm trying to start conspiracy theories, but it's not that. IT JUST DOESN'T ADD UP in any way to me.
I do not trust this woman and I can't support her even if I have to puke as I vote for her. After November if she's the nominee... the best thing I can think of right now is that I won't have to donate ANOTHER penny to help her in any way! A vote is about all I'll ever do for this woman.

(2,145 posts)It is like we are threatened into giving up our values. I won't do that. I will vote Green. You can all hate me but until your values are those which will really make this country the "exception" place it says it is, I will let you all have what you vote for but without my help.
In fact, if more progressives voted green, the democratic party would finally change as it lost voters each and every election. You do yourselves no good continuing to vote against your values. Change will never come that way.

(15,435 posts)Who knows, in the end my disgust with her may say, just let Trump try to run a country and let the people see. But I keep thinking about HOW HITLER came to power.
Is this country smart enough to "get it?" I really wonder. Is it absolutely the lesser of two evils? Could be. I know my feelings about her are extremely powerful and NOT IN A GOOD way! I can not stand her and have no respect for her or Bill Clinton for that matter. Before I found out about the REALITY of both of them quite some time ago, I vowed NEVER to vote for her! It's been that way for YEARS!
It's been said Great Nations have a good run for about 200 years and then they fall. We're now going on three! We HAVE to believe Bernie has really started the blow back because if the people just roll over again nothing good will come of it.
I'm no newcomer to this game, I just feel it in my bones. We have been screwed over for way too long. AND people DO SEE IT! This kind of pent up anger can't be controlled for much longer. I was thinking about that a lot lately. Maybe it might be better for one or the other to win because there's IS this feeling and if the people STILL feel this anger should she make it, it's going to hit like a ton of bricks.
Kind of like, be careful of what you wish for. With Bernie there's a chance to turn it around, with her the anger may reach a fever pitch! It's bound to happen, you can almost SMELL it!
