2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe Clinton's blood money
Someone nicely suggested I should cross post this so here goes:
By now everyone knows about the lie heard around the world. I have no illusions that most people are going to care about this a whole lot. I do remember the 80's when AIDS ravaged the country and as I write this there are 1.8 million who have the disease. And too many have already died.
I am going to be honest about my goal here. I want the Clinton's to pay for this politically. I want Hillary herself to be extremely sorry she ever brought up the issue of AIDS. This disease has killed 535,000 people in the United States alone. Those are a lot of empty chairs at holiday dinners. I saw one of those empty chairs myself and I am still so livid I am struggling to remain coherent, perhaps I have lost the struggle some would say. This disease has ravaged too many families for me to just sit and stew in my own rage. I am intending to take this fight to the internet. I don't know how many will do the same. I hope the numbers are legion. But, even if they are not I will still do this as much as I can.
This is an article I am pretty sure I found on DU:
https://www.prisonlegalnews.org/news/1999/may/15/tainted-plasma-traced-to-arkansas-prison-bill-clintons-blood-trails/
The following is the item I found the most damning:
Mays, who served as a vice-president for finance at the Democratic National Committee, has been at the heart of several Clinton scandals. In 1996, he was credited with securing Little Rock restaurateur Charlie Trie's $100,000 contribution to the Democratic Party's coffers. He also pops up in the Whitewater probe, where he tried to stave off the federal prosecution of David Hale. Mays and his wife have been frequent visitors to the White house, including an overnight stay in the Lincoln bedroom. Dunn claims that Mays was recommended to him by Clinton and prison board chairman and Clinton intimate, Woodson Walker.
It is not what I found the most infuriating though. My uncle the one who left an empty chair at my first Christmas back in Michigan from Minnesota, had become so ill from the disease he couldn't attend Christmas dinner. I saw him that Thanksgiving and he had lost a shocking amount of weight and he wasn't himself at all. He was still my uncle though. I saw my aunt fighting tears for the whole family event. My cousins were also somber.
I remember the ridiculous claims of the Clinton's killing people and those claims are still ridiculous. Somehow this makes it worse that people would believe such nonsense while very real killing was going on. HIV infected blood killed real people. HIV infected blood killed Gary Daniels.

(19,877 posts)And talk about blood money, 33000 people die from guns every year, an industry Bernie chose numerous times to protect.

(14,177 posts)But, if you don't know this you should. Most of the violence is urban violence and Bernie wants to eradicate the root cause of that, not create a worse situation like your friends the Clintons are so proud of doing.

(14,177 posts)I posted. But, good luck trying. Really I mean it. I would love it if this wasn't true.

(19,877 posts)WalMart wasnt the behemoth it is today? It was an Arkansas company. What about Bernie courting lockheed martin to build f-35s in Vermont? Lockheed killed more people than WalMart.

(9,385 posts)And the linked article too, I hadn't seen that one. Yours goes into the direct connections with Bill Clinton much more than the others I've seen. Still shaking my head over this.
Here's what I don't understand... granted, most of the victims of this blood were in other countries, but how in the world did the Repubs not find out about this? During the 1990s they were constantly searching for any sort of scandal to bring up... how did they never find this one?
Or is it possible they knew but for some reason agreed not to use it?
Of course the suffering caused by this itself is the main issue, along with the complete lack of disclosure and/or taking responsibility for this. It certainly makes me feel very differently about the Clintons.
Thank you again for posting this OP.

(14,177 posts)But, here is their problem. They are neck deep into it as well. If they talk about this then they will have to talk about prison reform which was touched on as an issue, but not outright stated. Prisoners had no way of making money for those small, but precious things that make life a little more bearable, so this was their only source of income. Conditions in prisons besides that are horrible, even in the best of this country. Then there is the issue of how this adversely effects POC, I seriously doubt the GOP is going to lose sleep over POC dying because of the dirty needles used to draw blood infecting many other prisoners who came into the system without AIDS.
I didn't see any RW names mentioned in the article so I can only conclude they helped by naming names to the journalists as long as they weren't mentioned at all not even a source in the ____ office said that ___. Or they were bit players that greased the wheels.

(14,177 posts)I have no idea why this party keeps shooting off it's feet, putting weak nominees out there when most people would vote Democrat, just not those Democrats. And then they go Mondale lost...no Mondale didn't lose...Democrats lost by not figuring out he was a weak candidate.
