Free media coverage for Trump

There was an article the other day showing the extent of "free" media coverage for candidates. Basically, this was any media appearances that we're not bought and paid for, such as ads. This would include news coverage, interviews, And the like.

This put the value of trumps free coverage at approximately $1.8 billion. That's $1.8 billion that Trump is not spending for advertising.

So here's my question. How realistic is it to think that the Media can go through something akin to cold turkey and only provide the most basic coverage of Trump. This would mean the comedians wouldn't discuss Trump, no daily interviews, no call-in interviews, fewer op-ed pieces, etc.

Let's face it. We on the left no all we need to know. The insane people on the right are never going to change their minds. So, skillet all back. Like the sign says of the zoo, please do not feed the animals.

Possible? Necessary? Stupid idea? Or pointless, since it probably ain't going to happen?
