Great OP from "Tom Joad"

There's more than a little bit of fear right now that the election of 2012 is just a sham - a sideshow of monumental insignificance - because "the fix is in." The collective amnesia of conservatives and their willingness to do or say anything to get their way, has many convinced that President Obama's second term is going to disappear down the rabbit hole of electronic voting machines. It's not li
ke it hasn't happened before.

Democrats still remember when a 4% Kerry lead in all the polls, swung outside the margin of statistical error in the middle of the night and became a Bush win in Ohio. Democrats remember that at 12:20 a.m., the IT specialist contracted to tabulate Ohio's results, Michael Connell, found 300,000 votes that sealed the deal on Bush's second term.

Mr. Connell was later subpoenaed to testify in a federal lawsuit filed against Ohio Secretary of State Kenneth J. Blackwell. Testimony in the case included a discussion of the probability of Ohio's vote being subject to a “man in the middle” attack. In court transcripts we learned “[t]his centralized collection of all incoming statewide tabulations would make it easy for a single operator, or a preprogrammed ‘force balancing computer’ to change the results in any way desired by the team controlling the 'man in the middle.”

Michael Connell was scheduled to testify in the case. Michael Connell was an experienced pilot, in a plane that had been recently serviced, when he crashed three miles short of the runway in Akron, Ohio on December 22, 2008. The cause of the crash remains unknown. Tell me again that I'm "a coward" because I use a pen name, conservatives. Bring it.

Also the idea of rigged electronic voting machines is part of popular culture so any attempt to steal the election will not be greeted as originating from a bunch of conspiracy nuts.
