2. What does this mean other than Dems are more interested in voting early?

I think it's fine. If it makes other Dems more enthusiastic about voting, great. But is there any historical analysis of early voting to suggest that it's predictive?

5. Wouldn't voting early suggest MORE enthusiasm?

I mean, you've actively sought it out; you haven't just rolled up on Election Day.

It might also show a willingness to try out a new convenience.

undoubtedly other things too.

I don't mean to suggest it can't show enthusiasm, as in eagerness to cast the vote, but I'm not sure that's the only or correct way to interpret the bias toward democrats in early voting

Dems better be leading in that county.

I dont know what it was in 2008. Maybe that's a better comparison.

in absentee ballots. That lead has been cut to 4 percentage points this year."

"The Republicans lead Democrats when it comes to absentee votes cast, about 126,000 to 114,000. In percentage terms, Republicans lead Democrats 44-40 percent.

Despite all the positive trends for them, Republicans are a little nervous. They’ve always out-organized and outvoted Democrats by absentee ballots — usually by big margins."

In other words, in FL the Obama campaign is helping raise the amount of absentee voters by huge amounts compared to what Dems have ever done in the past. The ground game there must be awesome. From 16% to 4% behind. We may not win FL but in the future ever Democrat running for President needs to take a look at Barack Obama's amazing ground game. And it may show that Gallup is not calculating Dem enthusiasm very well in certain states, like Ohio and Iowa and the early voting there.
