Tagg Romney: Well, you want to jump out of your seat and rush down to the debate stage and take a swing at him.

(619 posts)My response to it didn't make any sense because I thought you were saying that a person who names their kid "Tagg" thinks he is above the law. I get what you meant.
My bad!

(103 posts)There is a word for the propensity to attack, both verbally and apparently physically, the head of state.
It is called sedition.
When Jefferson, the poster boy and oft invoked original constitutional literalist, sat in the White House, it was a punishable crime; it's one thing to disagree with policies, priorities, leadership style or even character, but at some point "disloyal, profane, scurrilous, or abusive language" about POTUS does in fact generate contempt for the United States government.
I guarantee you if Mr. Romney-in-charge received such disrespect from anyone subject to his authority as a CEO, he would have summarily fired, blackballed, and ruined that person.
Talk to some of the nuts out there supporting Romney and you'll see they have been whipped up into a frenzy of anti-Obama blood lust. If Romney can carry the day with those crazies backing him, it will be right up there with the rise of the National Socialists in 1930's era Germany.
But let's not forget that Hitler actually lost the 1932 election. Even if Romney is defeated here in 2012, the sedition has to stop before we find that eventually the gate keepers (US S.Ct.) succumb to the pressure of the incised fanatics and let a wolf in (and there are plenty of them lurking around in the ultra-conservative camp) and so the sheep will end up put to slaughter all the same.

(2,117 posts)I've never seen a potential First Family that has so little respect for our government and political process. We need to make sure Mitt loses so these clowns all become irrelevant. If it isn't Ann believing she's entitled to be the First Lady, or Mitt cutting off our President at a public forum, it's his son threatening the President with violence. I have the deepest contempt for this family right now.

(31,392 posts)at one point. Can you imagine what a show that would have been?
Romney pinned on the floor by Secret Service within seconds? On national TV?
Boom. Election over.

(5,453 posts)the explosion of joy that would cause.
Hopefully I'll find out during the next debate.

(619 posts)But the problem certainly would not. I don't think you're entirely serious!
But seriously, can you imagine the precedent set by such a thing?
We're not too many steps away from this scenario: Armed wingnuts feeling even more emboldened than they do now. GOP/TPers purposely running candidates who enjoyed threatening and goading their opponents just to embolden their base, or vice versa (we've been close to it already). Political events would be reduced to gladiator theatrics and what's left of our democracy would descend into even more of an idiocracy or anarchy.
I don't think so, and I hope not!
