As bad as Romney was in the debate...

Imagine if the candidate debating President Obama last night had been Michelle Bachmann, or Herman Cain, or any other of the Republicans who ran in the primary. Go ahead, just pick one and have a laugh. (Rick Perry is the funniest one to me - he wouldn't have even been sober.)

with Romney it was more about having to expose him.

Perry and Cain would have come off as personally likable but stupid and funny.

i really think Romney is the most sleazy. those you name wouldn't have been sleazy.

But I'm sure if you look up sleazy in the dictionary, there's a picture of Newt Gingrich there.

Moment of weakness.

I do, so hate that woman.

And not because she is a woman, but because she is Michelle Bachmann..

Remember Willard's response to the question about gun control? That would have been Little Ricky's whole debate spiel. It would have been amusing, but way too one-dimensional.

The candidate that would have concerned me the most that would have been a true match in dignity, class, knowledgeability, etc., would have been John Hunstman. Of course, he was far too respectable to have won over the CON-servative base.

The Dems could do worse, and it would be a fairly potent "reaching across the aisle" moment to indicate that yes he'll work with Republican moderates, but not with zealots.

The right was already feeling him and if Romney loses, his standings will rise as some people say, "See, I TOLD you we should have gone with the *real* conservative!" If the lineup is as loony next time, he has as good a shot as any of them.

... which is scary, I will grant you
