Bernie Sanders's wife, Jane Sanders, is facing heat for an impromptu meeting she had with Joe Arpaio, the controversial sheriff of Maricopa County, Ariz.
Jane Sanders was touring the outside of Arpaio's "tent city" jail in Phoenix with immigration activists when the sheriff came and spoke with her briefly.
Rep. Luis Gutiérrez (D-Ill.), an outspoken advocate of immigrant rights and a supporter of Hillary Clinton, slammed Sanders for the meeting, saying she was not forceful enough with Arpaio.
"When Jane Sanders visited Joe Arpaio's inhumane detention center, the Sanders campaign had a chance to tell Arpaio to his face that he was wrong and that he needed to resign — as many of us have said for years. Instead, they heard him out, thanked him for his 'hospitality' and, contrary to their claims, made their criticisms through a press release and a series of tweets," Gutiérrez told Bloomberg.

(58,785 posts)that might backfire on him and his party. To try to equate Sanders with Arpaio is too obviously dishonest and too far a stretch to make. Both Sanders and his wife will be interviewed in Spanish-language media and will be getting their version out to people whose attention will likely only have been heightened by this nonsense.
Principles and issues are what we should be hitting. Sanders sent Vermont's toxic nuclear waste to a poor, mostly Hispanic area of Texas, and no foolish "hits" should be allowed to distract discussion from that revelation of what he is.

How about you haul your ratfucking ass down to Arizona from Illinois and do it yourself if it's so important to you, Luis? Otherwise, cierra la boca.

(1,786 posts)About 20 yrs ago I was driving when I should not have been. I ended up getting a sentence of 60days in jail. I spent that time in tent city, pink underwear and all in the summer.
Speaking purely for my own self here being able to spend that time in tent city was much better than spending that time in a cell in a "pod", if you have ever been in a "pod" you know what I am talking about. There many things I disagree with Arpaio on but tent city is not one of them.
