Ryan DID know they were already clean. He insisted on the staff letting him be photographed washing the pots and pans even though he KNEW they had already been done. He didn't care about the reality only the image. He apparently also didn't care that sanitary regulations did not permit unauthorized people to touch dishes that contained, or were to contain, food people were to eat later on. One more case of IOKIYAR.

If he's trying to give the impression he's been there for a while doing dishes, it ain't working.

This is more like showing up after the dishes have been done and wanting to pitch in after someone else did all the work to take the credit.
