2016 Postmortem

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/feb/02/i-like-bernie-sanders-his-supporters-not-so-much-berniebroIm not #FeelingTheBern anymore. Im on Bernie Sanders side policy-wise. I agree with many more of his positions than I do Hillary Clintons. I donated money to his campaign last year and I intend to vote for him in the Ohio primary in March. Still, the Berniebro phenomenon has left me feeling, well, Berned-out.
I am referring to a certain demographic of Sanders supporter white and male who accuses anyone whos not #FeelingTheBern of being a member of the Establishment.
Its gotten bad enough that Bernie Sanders campaign rapid response director had to speak up about it on Twitter. Its gotten bad enough that, among my circle of friends (who are mostly millennials about evenly split between supporting Clinton and Sanders in the primary), the Berniebro phenomenon immediately comes up whenever the election comes up.
Its not a new pattern. Remember the Obamatons back in 2008, who declared Hillary Clinton to be everything from a reincarnated Margaret Thatcher to Ronald Reagan in a pantsuit despite the fact that Clinton had a near identical voting record to Obamas and actually ran to his left on issues like healthcare.
The worst trait of fundamentalists is their insistence that anyone whos not on board with their revolution is part of a coordinated conspiracy to silence and suppress that revolution. You can watch in real time as any progressive public figure who refuses to openly endorse Sanders whether or not they also endorse Clinton gets bombarded by wave after wave of accusations of being on the take.
IF there's one feature of Sanders supporters that cannot be denied is their overwhelming tendency to demonize anybody who disagrees with their choice of candidate. And they of course will say the author, (and myself for posting this article) are obviously deviant psychopathic, evil tools of the establishment - and enemies of humankind. I would make a rough estimate of the percentage of pro-Bernie posts which are baseless attacks on Hillary Clinton's decency, character and humanity ---- "and the same goes for any of you creeps who support her too!!"... would be the usual refrain.
HOw many times can anybody remember a pro-Bernie post that actually presented his policy proposals or plans (has he put any of these things into writing?). Yeah, that's what I thought. I remember their has been a time or two where a pro-Bernie post presented his ideas or proposals but they were damn few and far between.

(6,007 posts)This one is the "I WAS a Bernie supporter . .until . . . "
Please spare us.
But you are right, NEVER AN ISSUE OR POLICY DIFFERENCE.
The reason for that is that Hillary has changed all of her policies to match Bernie's because he is speaking to the people's needs.

(6,007 posts)that HORRIBLE bankruptcy bill. Then took $140,000 from Wall Street to run for Senate and then her FIRST vote was to vote FOR that same bill she knew was so HORRIBLE.
I mean, to the casual observer, it sure looks like money caused her to change her vote. How do you explain it? Anyone? Anyone? Beuler?

(7,299 posts)the "HORRIBLE bankruptcy bill", can you tell me what bill number it is? Also, I could not find where she got Bill to veto that bill, can you share some links or something that shows that? I did find her very first vote which was U.S. Senate Roll Call Votes 107th Congress - 1st Session link http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=107&session=1&vote=00001 where she voted yes to the Nomination, Confirmation of Mitchell E. Daniels to be Director of the O.M.B. Is that the vote you are talking about? Or are you talking about her tenth vote (the previous ones were confirmations, so I skipped those) on bill S.248 which was "A bill to amend the Admiral James W. Nance and Meg Donovan Foreign Relations Authorization Act" which seems to deal with the UN's maximum budget to a peace keeping army? I hate to say it, but to the casual observer that can navigate the internet it sure looks like at the very least your claims don't hold, well, anything. Beuler?
I thought you would have responded back already. Im sure you are just busy doing other posts here and haven't had the time to adequately respond. I'm positive you are not the type of person to post something controversial about something and then just run away sowing trouble and false information elsewhere. Positive.

(15,317 posts)There has been a lot of Hillary attacking and when you point that out, particularly the unfair attacks, you're immediately suspect. It's too bad because it tends to overshadow the message. People remember the attacks and the drama.

(7,820 posts)If you intend to support them is authoritarian but screaming support Hillary or else every other post or trying to get people banned for daring to question her is not. The Hillary campaign and its supporters have incredibly authoritarian and very my way or the highway. They're apoplectic that people are daring to challenge the chosen one.
