MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) President Barack Obama told supporters in swing state New Hampshire Thursday that rival Mitt Romney took another swing and whiffed when asked during a debate how he'd pay for his tax cut plan.
Surrounded by brilliant fall foliage and a crowd of about 6,000 fans in Manchesters Veterans Park, the president stuck to the same energized line of attack hes taken since the debate Tuesday night. He accused Romney of failing to explain how he would pay for the cuts without adding to the deficit or shifting the tax burden to the middle class and of trying to sell voters on a sketchy deal.
"He took another swing at it, and he whiffed, Obama said. Instead of telling us how he'd pay for it, he said, I'll let you know after the election. And then when I asked him about it, he said, I'm a business man, I know the numbers will work.
I'm gonna let you in on a little tip when a politician tells you that hes going to wait until after the election, its not because their plan is so good, they dont want to spoil the secret, Obama said.

(275 posts)Considering this is Thursday and the middle of the work day. People had to stand in line before the event for hours I'm sure (it's that way here in Nevada when I go to the rallies)so figure people were lining up at least around noon or so. Maybe even before. So that sounds like a lot for a work day IMHO.

(9,774 posts)a small number? Obama has been getting much larger crowds in other states.

(3,370 posts)...it could be my state's tampon. I think 6,000 is a damn good number for them.

(9,774 posts)You are funny!
Listen, the president has been turning out big crowds all over the country, sometimes 30,000 people so when I read 6,000 I was just wondering if that was a small crowd for NH. That's all!

(9,874 posts)I used to vacation there every year in the Lake Sunapee area. Manchester is not a very big town. If I had to compare it to a town around here (NJ) I'd say it is about the size of Hackensack. 6,000 people in Manchester is a lot of people in a state where there are mostly trees and woodpiles

(489 posts)Patriots fan here, so I'm a little over-sensitive to thoughts about the NY Football Giants.
The Jets ... yawwwwwwwn.
Anyway, 6,000 people is a fine crowd for a Thursday afternoon in Manchester, particularly since this rally was only hyped over the past few days.

(9,874 posts)Eli Manning Stadium (actually Metlife Stadium but I say that just to piss off Jet fans) is in East Rutherford, about 5 miles south of Hackensack and, as the crow flies, about 3-5 miles due west of the Empire State Building. BTW, I am a season ticket holder and we LOVES the Patriots. I do feel bad (just a little) about beating Belichick since there will always be a place in my heart for him for the terrific defenses he had with the Giants. Too bad we never got him as a head coach (though I am not at all unhappy with Coughlin).

We both don't like the Jets.
If the Pats get back to a Super Bowl any time soon (doubtful, with their defense) I just hope to see them play someone other than the NYFG!
(That would be NY Football Giants, not that other F word!)

(9,874 posts)When they were REALLY REALLY bad, from the mid 60s until the early 80's we actually used to call the the NY F----ing Giants and even saw people wearing shirts that said exactly that right on them.

(489 posts)They barely survived the 60s, playing at BU, BC, Fenway Park, Harvard ... they once played a HOME game in Brimingham, Ala. when there was a conflict at Fenway with the Red Sox!
Until the early 70s the Giants were as popular here as the Pats. They were on Boston TV more than the Pats were.

(25,415 posts)I love NH and visit there almost every summer. My husband's father lives in Lyman, a very small town.
Coos County, the top half of NH, is literally woods with moose. I once stayed at a cabin in Randolph for a week in Coos County. It was beautiful and the White Mountains were really cool to look at every morning. But it was pretty desolate up there. The bottom part of NH has more population. But the further up you go, the less people you get. I love the White Mountains area the best and Franconia Notch. Have spent lots of time in Lincoln as well.
VT, NH, and Maine are pretty sparsely populated. The majority of New England's population (a little over 14 million) have shoved themselves mostly into Mass and CT and traffic in both states can be really bad. RI is just small.
And that ends my mini lesson on New England.
