Long Lines forming in NC for first day of early in-person voting

North Carolina’s early voting period began Thursday morning with more than 150 people standing in line when the doors opened at 8 a.m. at the Hal Marshal Annex on the north side of Charlotte’s uptown.
About 350 sites across the state feature early voting until Nov. 3, and the Hal Marshal Annex was the first Mecklenburg County site to open.
Among those who arrived to vote early was a group from Obama for America, which marched from the organization’s Charlotte headquarters on East Ninth Street to vote early. At mid-morning, dozens of people were still waiting in line outside the building.
Some of the early voting sites were reporting a 45-minute to hour-long wait for people to get inside to cast their ballots. In 2008, wait times exceeded longer than an hour at some spots.
