2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumMedia Silent as Bernie Sanders Packs Seattle Arena Beyond Capacity (LIVE VIDEO)
Tonights Bernie Sanders rally in Seattle, Washington is one of the biggest ones to date.
The Vermont senator will be speaking to a capacity crowd at Key Arena in Seattle, to excite his base in Washington State before voters caucus on March 26. According to tweets from the scene, the overflow crowd watching Sanders speech on screens outside the stadium might be bigger than the crowd inside, where capacity is 17,854. Not long after Secret Service started letting Sanders supporters inside the venue, the campaign already started preparing overflow space.
And, of course, in true Sanders fashion, Bernie spoke to the thousands gathered outside the arena before going inside to the main event:
At ground level, the crowd was truly massive, taking over the entire street adjacent to Key Arena.

(19,841 posts)How can anyone support this kind of censorship?

(8,812 posts)If the media don't cover it, it didn't really happen.
Perhaps they're reluctant to break away from a shot of Donald Trump's empty podium. You know, just in case something happens.

(19,841 posts)is a phenomenon. With important implications for the party. And the nation.
It absolutely is censorship of the worst kind.

(12,689 posts)Censorship is when the government doesn't allow free speech, not when the media doesn't cover something. The media is never under any obligation to cover a candidate's speech.
marions ghost
(19,841 posts)I think everybody knows it amounts to censorship--no matter how you want to slice and dice it.

(29,798 posts)The media does have a social obligation to provide fair and honest coverage of the news. They have a special carveout in the Constitution for a reason, you know.
In contrast, when private individuals or groups organize boycotts against stores that sell magazines of which they disapprove, their actions are protected by the First Amendment, although they can become dangerous in the extreme. Private pressure groups, not the government, promulgated and enforced the infamous Hollywood blacklists during the McCarthy period. But these private censorship campaigns are best countered by groups and individuals speaking out and organizing in defense of the threatened expression....

It's a natural mistake, so I hope that helps.

(12,689 posts)Rallies usually do not get much coverage regardless of crowds. For the most part they are just red meat for the base.

(11,945 posts)Every speech he gives is full of facts that NEVER make it to the MSM. Facts that the 1% want to keep hidden. Truths that aware, awake people want to hear.
But regardless of the great worth of his message, 30,000 people coming out to hear a presidential candidate speak is always newsworthy.
It should not be kept hidden.
If you valued democracy and the role of media in democracy, it would disturb you that Bernie's following -- and his message -- is kept hidden.

(11,945 posts)It shows no respect for the sanctity of the vote, the right of Americans to freely enter and leave the polling place without delay, interference, and blatant campaigning by powerful figures who should show more respect for the rights of their fellow Americans.

(21,210 posts)a visit near a polling place while the 99% show up to vote between responsibilities is truly revolting.

(11,945 posts)For us. He's working for the American people.
Lately Hill fans are saying increasingly ugly things about Bernie -- saying he represents privileged white males, saying he's not honest, saying he doesn't like AAs, saying he's sexist, saying he's in it for money ... stupid, ugly, outrageous things. It shocks and sickens me that people can stoop so low.

(16 posts)If all of the negative crap being posted about Bernie is really coming from Hillary supporters. Some of it sounds so horrible it sounds more like GOP/TP negativity.
But the Hillary supporters are spreading it so fast and furious and some are starting to rave like right-wing lunatics. I'm starting to wonder if they were true Democrats to begin with
senz
(11,945 posts)but lately it seems like something's wrong. Since their candidate is doing well right now, you'd think they'd be more friendly, relaxed and generous. It's strange that they're not.
Amazing is right.

(7,393 posts)The looney lefties here are not Democrats. They are socialists, greens, and anarchists. And Bernie's best feature, as far as they are concerned, is that he smears Democrats.

(11,945 posts)He does have a core message that no one else in this country dares to say, but he varies it with every speech, brings in news events, different angles, etc.
People love it.
Whereas Hillary is always so fresh and new with amazing facts we're all just dying to hear. Right? That's why we all rush out to her events. Gee, maybe the MSM is censoring her big crowds, too. That could be why we never hear about them!

(2,054 posts)Guess they must have a low level of commitment and enthusiasm.
Or Hillary just can't handle crowds.
Come to think of it, are there any photos of Hillary ever participating in a civil rights demonstration?
Anything at all?
We know she was active in the Goldwater movement but is there any indication she was ever an activist in the civil rights, anti-war, women's rights or other progressive movements back in the 60's and 70's?
Please post relevant pictures and/or videos of her participation in any of those movements.
I'll be watching.
There might be something.

(5,198 posts)truth has a liberal bias and they cannot take the bright lights, so it's easier for them to turn us off. We are dead to them, even when showing up by the millions, we are only allowed a token representation in government.
The illusion is that liberals are some kind of fringe extremist, while the truth is that neo conservatives support the most extreme dictatorship governments and have deposed countless 'leftist' democratically elected leaders around the world, and this is what they want to do in America.
These international entities do not support democracy, all those environmental, labor, ethics laws get in the way of profits! We cannot allow this to happen here, it would be very difficult to reverse.
