Related: About this forumThe Bird That Landed on Bernie Sanders’ Podium and Its Symbolism
Even better than a sparrow, this was a finch:
"When finches come into our awareness it is a sure sign of prosperous and joyous times ahead. Finches are an omen of high energy and bright days on the horizon. Natives held the finch as a symbol of upcoming celebration. Finches are song birds, and their music heralds the bounty of spring. When the finch sings to our awareness it is a beckoning to unleash our own song. If weve been concealing our brilliance from the world the finch is a sign to start making our value more audible and available to others. Its bird meaning deals with sociability too, and if the finch comes into your life it may be a signal to get more involved with social activities."

(382 posts)... bird landing anywhere as a sign of political apocrypha? Birds land all the time. They sometimes land in Walmart in the household goods aisle. Sounds more like a Geico radio commercial to me.

(22,308 posts)It is entirely possible that the bird will find it's way outside once again. Stranger things have happened.
I worked in a similar arena for a about a year and a half (The Palace of Auburn Hills) and I remember seeing any number of birds inside there. I never saw a dead one. Keep in mind that the little doors that people enter through are not the only doors into that structure. There are large doors for equipment to pass through in the loading area. It is very likely that the bird found it's way into the building through those large doors and it is also very likely that it will find it's way out again.
In the meantime, there are lots of scraps of food and small amounts of water in that environment. Condensation off of pipes and equipment will provide far more than enough water for any number of small birds plus there are lots of scraps of food from people attending events.
Your pessimism is overwhelming. Try to think a happy thought. Odds are that bird will be fine. It's being in that building is not a death sentence.

I ain't sharing. But you really need to take care of that anger. It is far from healthy
And with that. The sun is out. The birds are chirping. In fact, might even go to the beach today. I do enjoy life, not wallow in anger

Self-flattery isn't great, but my god what a difference between supporters. It's like people pick the candidate who is most like themselves. And that makes me incredibly happy!
It's been a fantastic experience with some truly beautiful moments like today.

And yes, it is wonderful to be surrounded by his volunteers and supporters and rallies. Such a great energy.

(711 posts)suggested. It does strike a nerve with me, but not one about war and peace. Rather it makes is quite obvious that there are some creatures that are not corrupted by multiple layers of compromises, strategies and pretense. To me the bird is in strikingly good company when it comes to being natural, authentic and unspoiled by corruption, while sitting on that podium.
And after decades of rather hollow promises from all kinds of politicians, it really does hit a nerve when someone is satisfied with just being himself and with just doing what he can.

(10,751 posts)...have already made our decision on who we're voting for. Yes, at one level, it's just a bird landing on a podium somewhere. But for the people there, it so obviously was a delightful moment, and Bernie's reaction was so genuine and sweet that it made the moment that much more wonderful.
So those of us who got to enjoy the video later could hardly help but see it as a very special moment, and being human, we also interpret the event. It's kind of like art, you know: the artist has their idea, whatever it is, and they put it out there. But once it's out there, it is not under the control of the artist anymore. The people who view the art have the last say on its interpretation. Similarly, whatever the "real" meaning was (i.e., even if it was just a random bird landing on a random podium), the crowd reacted the way they did when that bird landed, and Bernie's reaction to it all ended up being something special.
Look, you know and I know that this incident is unlikely to have any effect on the results of the next primaries. Why not just let us enjoy what for Bernie supporters was a very special, impromptu and sweet moment.
In other words, deal with it!
Rachel @maddow just spent 5 minutes orgasming over the bird who declared Bernie Jesus.

Then you see how it affected the Bernie supporters here, how they feel something positive and good.
As contrasted to the ugly, nasty posts of the Hillary supporters. As it says in the Bible, what comes out of the mouth tells you the content of the heart. Sick, tortured hearts.
Another way I thought about it was as a message from nature. . . Bernie is the ONLY candidate who wants to seriously take on Climate Change. You could see the bird as an emissary from nature acknowledging him for that. Protect us all from annihilation. Nature is with us.
Tanuki
(14,920 posts)Seriously? I think the nastiest post so far was the one on another thread, from one of your fellow Bern-feelers, who said the bird would have pecked Hillary's eyes out. You folks need to lighten up.
There is simply no denying the fact that it was a special moment. The crowd's reaction was instant and utter delight, which already made it special. Then Bernie's reaction made it just that much better.
Now if we choose to enjoy that moment, replay it, and add interpretations based on native lore or whatever, that is our choice. But independent of any interpretation, the moment itself was golden.
So go ahead, boo and hiss, and try to cast us all as superstitious heathens for enjoying a great little vignette and for attaching meaning to it. We can take it.
You think we're superstitious / quasi-religious; I think you're just envious. It just happened to be a magical moment. Deal with it.

What a pity that so many have forgotten the ways of the natives of this land; so many have forgotten how to speak to our animal brethren, and to understand or appreciate their mytho-poetic symbolism. And how hollow life must be for some people to feel the need to denigrate the spiritual beliefs and practices of others. We could all learn a lot from nature, if we but still had the ears to listen....
