2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumMy Washington Caucus was excellent
My precinct went Sanders 52 to 11 in raw vote or 4 delegates for Sanders and 1 for Clinton.
My caucus site, 17 precincts, went for Sanders 48 delegates to 15 for Clinton.
A interesting story from my caucus was an amazing experience for me.
There was this very elderly women, who ended up parking on the wrong side of the high school, and attempting to walk from one side to the other and it was obviously difficult.
Ida was 93 years old and full of fire. I, a Sanders supporter and she a Clinton supporter. Despite her age and health challenges, she was bound to get in there to caucus for Clinton.
I walked her back to her car so she could drive around to be closer to the room we are caucusing in.
She was older, her health had seen better days but the mind was sharp as a tack. She has been voting since she was 21 when she was a senior in college. She ribbed me a little about supporting Sanders. Interesting stories from the McCarthy era. I spent as much time as I could talking to her but we were in different precincts and eventually went to our respective caucuses. It was an amazing experience. We might not agree on candidates but it was a fascinating experience.
No broader meaning for me. I judge people as individuals and Ida was the best and has had an amazing life so far and I hope many more years.

(23,867 posts)I just remembered something. I lived near a tiny airstrip once. Every Sunday morning this beautiful single engine WW2 airplane would buzz around. After a few years I finally decided to meet him at the airport when he landed. So I go down, watch him land, and taxi to his hangar. Out pops a 90 year old man with a parachute on. I think he still thinks it's 1943. He climbs down, and I say hi. As I am leaving he says, Don't let that liberal Kerry guy get in the White House!.

(8,733 posts)I was so busy in my precinct 's caucus that my world, for that couple of hours , was very small. I went from being a partisan Sanders site leader to a non-partisan Precinct Caucus Chair in the blink of an eye.
I thought there was things going on around our school but I would not have seen any of it.

(23,156 posts)And how kind of you, no matter who either of you were supporting, to help her get her car moved.
I'm not as old as she is, but I'm just old enough that sometimes I'll ask a younger person with help for something, and I'm always extremely grateful.
