2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI will happily admit that Bernie Sanders is chipping away at Clinton's lead today...
...unfortunately, gouging at her lead will be required if he's going to win...and I'm not seeing that happening in the upcomi States.

(4,176 posts)I am a Bernie and Hillary supporter.
I think Bernie has to be congratulated for doing a great job in his campaign in spite of some real unpleasantness from many of his supporters.
Your questioning me like this gives them fuel.

(20,043 posts)he's military. Was very conservative. Bought into the whole Fox/Rush bullshit about Obama. Used to argue with me. Eventually he started liking stuff on my fb page. Asking my opinion on things. He knows I'm undecided as to who I'm voting for.
I'm pretty sure he went with Bernie. While he wasn't jumping up and down over Hillary he didn't hate her. One of the things he liked about Bernie (over Hillary) was the legalizing pot-actually that was probably the most significant.
He thought Hillary had a better relationship with the AA community--he's AA (yes he knows all about the 90's stuff).
He wasn't 'afraid' of her militarily. He thought they balanced out with healthcare/school just had different ways of getting there.
But he feels strongly on legalizing mj. So my guess he went with Bernie. I'll know later, he's going to tell me.
He now thinks Obama is great and hates the pukes.
It's possible to change a mind here and there.
edited to add: change a mind from conservative to liberal.

Instead it is treated like some boutique fringe thing, instead of an issue which is likely to bring lots of people to the polls in states like CA this november.
Hillary has studiously avoided it as much as possible, even clumsily pivoting to "heroin addiction" when directly asked about marijuana in the debates (!!)
Of course, DWS is worse, openly backing strict prison sentences for both recreational and medical marijuana users.
Meanwhile, even leaving aside writing off the entire pacific Northwest, Colordao is an electoral swing state.
Hillary should pay attn to pols like Gavin Newsom and Jeff Merkeley, who have gotten ahead of this issue.

(7,358 posts)We stand together, and if Hillary Clinton becomes the President of the U.S., then it will be our duty (as true progressives) to hold her feet to the fire. We have to. We should also focus on regaining control of the House and Senate. Just think of the possibilities that could come to fruition. Not that I am giving up hope of a Sanders win. It's not going to happen by just showing up at the polls. We have to get involved because our lives depend on it.

Do you disagree?

(23,156 posts)I, for one, have had enough of that. I'm not entirely sure what I'll do in November if Hillary is the nominee, because I see her as only marginally less bad for the country than any Republican.

(15,139 posts)change, that running the ultimate establishment candidate, one with more baggage than a symphony orchestra on a world tour, isn't the best idea. Given the choice between Trump and Hillary, many voters will be tempted to choose "none of the above."
beedle
(1,235 posts)there's a couple of other factors at play here:
1 - the ability to excite independents into turning out (Hillary doesn't have the ability IMO, while Bernie at least stands a chance. He's no "Obama' in that respect, but at least there's some 'there there'.
2 - not being another member of the Bush/Clinton dynasty and turning potential voters against voting; Again, an advantage Bernie has over Clinton.
There's other form of 'chest thumping', and it's the inexplicable believe that establishment Democrats have about 'closed primaries' and Hillary's ability to win that narrow, 'captive' vote, and what it might have to do with predicting the results for the GE.

(39,171 posts)and exposing weakness in her message and organization that she now has plenty of time to fix. Resiliency and flexibility are critical for a successful candidate- having a strong primary challenger is good for honing a GE message.
So it is important for you for Hillary to be weakened going into the the GE? If Bernie can't win the GE then Hillary must lose?
Logical

What bernie did to her is minor compared what the GE will do.
The primary debates and complaints about her was just a tune up.
