Related: About this forumSome Sanders Supporters Say It’s ‘Bernie or Bust’ And They Will Never Vote For Hillary Clinton
Bernie Sanders has dubbed his presidential campaign a political revolution, but some of his supporters are rebelling against the very party he is hoping to lead.
A voluble group of die-hard Sanders backers is vowing online that its Bernie or Bust, saying they will never support his presidential primary opponent and, at this point, the likely Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
Nearly two months after voting began in the Democratic primaries, Clinton has racked up a lead among pledged party delegates that makes a Sanders victory increasingly implausible. In apparent recognition of this mathematical challenge and the need to begin aiming fire outside the party, Sanders in recent weeks has pivoted away from Clinton and toward Republican frontrunner Donald Trump.
Yet at the same time Sanders is making the case that hes actually more electable in a matchup with Trump, he has also started talking about the circumstances under which he would endorse Clinton. His senior adviser, Tad Devine, has even suggested that Sanders would consider serving as Clintons running mate.
Despite these glimmers of reconciliation with his rival, Sanders may have unleashed a rebellion that will be beyond his power to control when it comes time to unify the party. Some Bernie or Bust stalwarts say they wont back Clinton even if Sanders joins her ticket.
After Clintons string of victories in the first weeks of March, this weekend begins a favorable stretch of the primary calendar for Sanders. This kicked off with a sweep on Saturday, with wins in the caucuses in Hawaii, Alaska and Washington. This momentum means that theres little reason for some Sanders backers to reconsider their primary season passions anytime soon.

(5,946 posts)at this point, I don't care anymore, I just want the constant insinuations to stop, there is not a single type of person who does this stuff, we are all individuals, or at least I would like to believe we are better than the marching in lock step republicans.

(2,546 posts)and I never heard that Bernie would agree to being VP w/ Hillary... This would be antithetical to his positions and entire history to bow down to THIRD Way positions ... of the corporate elite.

(22,308 posts)and that the PUMAs were pretty much the same thing (in reality) as what the BoB people are being accused of (in theory)?
If so, why did you post that most Clinton supporters were not puma? You seem to be trying to create a distinction there. If you were, then that is hypocritical. They are pretty much the same thing (assuming the Bernie or Bust thing actually materializes).
hrmjustin
(71,265 posts)And i stated a fact that modt HRC supporters were not puma.
Puma was wrong as is bernie or bust.
I am sorry if it came across wrong.

(23,565 posts)I am a huge Bernie supporter. I don't want to vote for Hillary. But, I will if it's her or a republican.
One of my best friends voted for Bernie and said she would NEVER vote for Hillary. That was a few weeks ago. Now she says she will vote for Hillary over trump or cruz.
Give it time and don't be insensitive.

having to choose between endorsing one of the most corrupt, dishonest, dangerous candidates in recent history and the prospect of a Republican president.
There would be so much agony surrounding that situation that I would not be surprised if someone saw an opportunity and jumped into the race."
By that time, I think many would support Bernie running as an Independent.

(2,941 posts)they are doubling down and defending Hillary's support of Reagan trickle-down economics, Wall Street deregulation, Hillary's neo-conservative foreign policy disasters in the Middle East while at the same time defending more US jobs to Asia to help "the needy people overseas". At the same time, leveling misogynistic and racist bullshit at Sanders.
We have two right wing parties and only one candidate who embraces the left.
Clearly we do not, and will never, get along. But ask yourself this? Is disparity, inequality getting better or worse under the conservative economic and social policies of establishment Democrats and Republicans?
It is getting worse. Our education costs sky rocketing, health care costs sky rocketing, rent and cost of living sky rocketing.
So why vote for more of it?

That is why Bernie supporters have a very hard time voting for Hillary.

(27,670 posts)they are not Democrats is because of corporatist Dem politicians like Hillary Clinton.
They would not have registered as Dems, and would not be voting in the current Dem primary, if Bernie Sanders wasn't running, and they won't be voting for Clinton in the GE if she is nominated.
Long time Dems who support Bernie are split, but I suspect 85-90% will vote for Clinton in the GE if she is nominated.
I suspect that a minimum of 25% of the Bernie supporters who vote/voted for Bernie in the primaries will not vote for Clinton in the GE if she is nominated.

(23,730 posts)"vote as you're told for the candidates we've chosen for you: if you complain, if you try and get involved, the Republicans will win and it'll be ALL. YOUR. FAULT"
they want a party with no enacted policies, just blind and unconditional voting based on not being the other guy
after two decades of seeing established pols whip right around and pass the GOP policies they were just denouncing, seeing them torpedo primaries and run the dullest floppers because it was "their turn" in the trajectory of a career statesperson and endorse third-party candidates against the Democrat and willfully hemorrhaging seats and voters
the whole "everything's Nader's fault and it's about to happen again" rings rather hollow, even after it was quickly found that Gore won FL anyway: it's the Moon landing denial of the party because it just. won't. die

(12,655 posts)two candidates who will screw them almost equally. there is more at stake than just the presidency and the next four years. there are much bigger issues and future political structures at stake.
we have seen how well the holding the nose and voting approach has worked, and many have decided that a candidate who wants to win needs to earn that win by having positions that engender passion and willingness to vote FOR someone not just against the lesser corporate puppet.

No Democrat is going to just let Trump win.

(146,329 posts)You are a Democrat. Those who will not vote for the Party's nominee are NOT democrats. Democrats vote for Democratc candidates. It is that simple. Whoever is the Democratc nominee w II get my vote. Period. I know what Republican Presidents do.

(39,215 posts)entitled and that is the way they have continued. She assumes that we will have to vote for her regardless. But what she forgets is that many of Bernie's supporters are Independents and even Rs. And many of us Democrats live in states that will go blue even without us.
She needs to earn our votes and she is not trying that at all. Many of the things she does are actually turning us off.
Vote2016
(1,198 posts)nose and vote Hillary if worst comes to worst (put me in this camp) but the "d" in DU is Democratic.
The "Bernie or Bust" folks aren't all necessarily Democrats (liberal libertarians, progressive independents, Greens, etc.).
Why would they support Hillary who they see (with some justification) as an architect and apologist for the broken status quo?
Also, think of the Progressive Democratics in deep blue or deep red states: their vote will not turn the statewide outcome either way. Why would they NOT vote Green in protest against a status quo establishment conservative Democratic nominee? What's the harm in their protest vote so long as they vote for the progressive Democrats down ballot?
Let's focus on making sure that ALL Democrats in ALL battleground states vote for Sanders or (gods forbid) Hillary no matter who is our nominee?
Why lament that Hillary cannot possibly win Sanders' liberal libertarian supporters, his progressive independent supporters, his Green party supporters, his Regan ex-Democrat Republican supporters, his *gasp* socialist supporters? Hillary has written off these voters off so she needs to win without them or we need to nominate Sanders (and you know where I lie down on that issue).
Why fret about these votes? If we want them, they are within our grasp - just nominate Sanders! If we don't want these votes, surely Jill Stein and Donald Trump and "stay at home" are the alternatives these people will choose.

(2,872 posts)My vote's either going to Stein or Bernie if he breaks his word (which yes, will immensely disappoint me but I understand) and runs third party; and then democratic down ticket because holy goddess we need the incompetent right wing obstructionists out.
