2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI voted for a Libertarian
No, not Gary Johnson.
One of the small county seat races had no Dem running at all. The choice was between the Repub and the Lib. I am so absolutely disgusted by the Repubs that I voted for the Lib. Mostly as a vote AGAINST the Repub.
The Repub is the incumbent and likely to win.

(10,745 posts)1. You should be fine, Sam.
This is a Democratic site but as far as I know, if there's no viable Dem running in a seat, then it should be okay to throw your vote to an alternative.

If there is no Dem running, but there's a Libertarian, the Libertarian gets my vote. Otherwise, I write in someone. And, sadly, it happens frequently around here.
I was about to seat a jury.

(15,671 posts)4. It bothers me so much that the alternative to Republican is Libertarian. It seems to be a trend.
I am so tired of the phrase "socially liberal but fiscally conservative"

I agree. I almost didn't vote in that race. But given that the Republican will win regardless, and a non-vote would just not be counted at all, it made sense to vote for his opponent.
