2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumForeign Policy Debate Tomorrow: What does Obama need to do to CRUSH the MittTwit?
We know the biggest things the MittTwit will try to do is hammer Obama on: 1) the Libya attack 2) saying he is weak on Iran
3) saying he is weak on China 4) saying his relationship with Israel is bad
Here is how Obama SMASHES the MittTwit: 1) On Libya the MittTwit held a press conference to score political points before he had any facts, and his party dramatically cut embassy security money.
2) We have the toughest sanctions on Iran we could have and are working right with Israel and the moderate Arab states on this.
3) Reiterate that RobMe is the OUTSOURCER IN CHIEF and PIONEER OF OUTSOURCING to China, we saved 1000 tire jobs from China, and have been tougher on China trade and currency practices than ANYONE.
4) The relationship with Israel is GOOD, even according to their Prime Minister. To say otherwise is just crap.
ALSO, ATTACK the MittTwit with "I KILLED BIN LADEN AND HAVE TAKEN DOWN MANY OTHER HIGH RANKING AL QAEDA LEADERS", on him saying Russia is our "biggest adversary", on his STUPID saber-rattling, on his saying getting out Iraq was "tragic," on him not committing for a date certain to leave Afghanistan, and on his bungled summer trip to Europe which showed how unfit for international prime time he is.

(17,865 posts)I would even go into how it made it even more difficult to govern when one major party candidate was flapping his lips instead of listening. Don't be afraid to say how the Republican controlled House has also jeopardized ongoing operations. Use only information already in the public though.
I might even bring up how Romney hoped for an Iranian style crisis during the campaign season in the video. Also how Romney would be useless as a negotiator for any Israeli-Palestinian discussions. Romney has made his foreign policy very clear in that regard - kick the can down the road for the next administration. Also how about advising Iran in how to attack us.
Killing one or two of the attackers prior to the election would also be useful. The meme going around is one of them is living large in the open.

(39,385 posts)Not a single American troop needed to be committed. It would not have happened without the President's leadership.
Maybe remind everyone how the GOP was screaming all along that it wouldn't work. Maybe remind viewers that Romney couldn't even talk about the Olympics without pissing off TORIES, so how would he have been similarly successful?
Now they're screaming again, about the aftermath of what still is a success story (just ask Libyans if they'd like to turn the clock back). It's the only thing they know how to do, other than ramp up tensions, unilaterally invade nations and alienate allies.

(1,330 posts)This debate will be about the votes in Florida, and how many Jewish votes Adelson can steal with smears. Remember 2000 and the butterfly ballot? Remember the voter purge of Blacks? Dealing with the purges and intimidations of minorities is one front, but in this debate, when President Obama gives a clear message to the Jews in Florida (and OH and VA), reassures them, he gets enough votes to carry that state.
Romney loses China and trade to the facts.
He loses war on terror to the facts.
He loses Syria and Iran because there is no alternative - the facts - as Biden pointed out, other than a war.
Romney loses the philosophical debate because he will rely on discredited neo-con points.
This is not a debate about foreign policy. This is a debate for votes.
Oh, yes, immigration - that's foreign policy. Obama solidifies and increases his lead among Hispanics. How close is AZ?

(8,064 posts)when the country called him to serve, he ran away. plain and simple.
but the President is too nice to bring that simple fact up.
The President can easily talk about the numbers of al quaeda that have been
eliminated, including it's former leader, Bin Laden. He can further discuss
how he ended the Iraq war (a promise kept), how he and the FLOTUS as well as the Bidens
have worked hard for our vets to find jobs and provide the health care that
they need.
He can further discuss that the war in Afghanistan is on track to end in 2014;
how the arab spring has led to the end of oppressive regimes and how
democratic processes are taking place and that the U.S. does not participate in
nation building, but is stationed to help provide security to allow new governments
takes shape. We cannot and should not be providing arms to groups unless we
know who they are and what their agenda is; most of this information is classified
and the obama administration cannot speak openly about it, not because of political
reasons, but because giving away too much information would put lives in danger.

(8,064 posts)so he can score political points, is not only not presidential, but it is unamerican
and down right treasonous.
of course, he's too nice and won't do that.

(449 posts)That tape really should be the gift that keeps on giving - even in monday's debate...
Robney sums up his mid-east/foreign policy as just kicking it down the road for the next prez.
He talks about exploiting a foreign policy tragedy in an almost hopeful way.
or that something like 17 out of 21 of r's foreign policy team are from the bush team.
Also, he's on tape talking about the chinese factory he visited, but I'm pretty sure he tossed out a no-comment when asked if he went on to do biz with that factory.
Prez needs to show everyone how much robney looks down upon workers (American and foreign slave labor), how little respect he has for women (hey ladies, his grandpa was a polygamist!), how little respect he has for vets and soldiers, disabled, and seniors (as per the 47% comments and as far as his budget cuts would go.) And how he's relying on Bush people for his foreign policy advice.
Also, it took shrub & romney's side 8 years to just about totally destroy this country. Why does anyone think it would take less than 4 to fix it?
Some say Obama isn't talking about what he'd change and/or do next term. What's wrong with saying that the steps he's taken are just starting to work (as evidenced) and that he is going to keep these working solutions going? That is the solution. Also, the repugs have made it their mission to block progress.
It really is baffling/frustrating that this is even close.
