2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumLooks like the Sarandon comments have prompted some deserved blowback.
Bernie or Bust used to be just a few idiots on the internet, but Sarandon going on MSNBC and advocating for the Marxist/Leninist "heighten the contradictions" theory woke people up to just how crazy these people are. Which is a good thing.
Combined with today's 4-4 SCOTUS decision which, for now, protected unions, the Democratic electorate is waking up to how insidious the coordinated far-left/far-right effort to sabotage Hillary's candidacy and install Trump or Cruz as president really is.
This isn't a game, people. Vote D in November.

Only people who don't understand the concept of context could possibly think she said she was voting for Trump.
I assume that at 'worst' if she sees there is no danger of Trump being elected she might either not vote, or vote Green or something.

(11,257 posts)I usually prefer to avoid holding candidates responsible for random things their supporters say, but that tolerance starts to fade when the same thing gets repeated over and over again.
It's not a coincidence that the Bernie or bust language keeps getting repeated. It's absolutely an outgrowth of what Bernie and his campaign are saying, even if they never use those words. And Bernie has NO excuse whatsoever for failing to disavow this garbage.

Bleacher Creature
(11,257 posts)Albright made a one-off comment. It wasn't repeated ad nauseam by other Clinton supporters, and it wasn't a logical extension of anything Hillary or anyone else on the campaign said.
Had the opposite been true, Clinton may have had an obligation to address it, but that's not the case.
What Sarandon said, however, is coming from Sanders supporters in identical form online, in interviews, in opinion pieces, etc.

We have the highest infant mortality rate of all modern nations and all you care about is see the Clinton Aristocracy gain more and more wealth and power. I find it repugnant that some Democrats would turn their backs on the working class and the poor and bow before the wealthy.

There is a Progressive Wing with Sen Sanders and Sen Warren and then there is the other side I call the Conservative Wing. You may call it The Third Way or whatever. Your side sells out to money and greed. They have been looting the middle and lower classes for decades and you support this status quo.
The Progressive Wing sees the number of 50 million as the number of Americans living in poverty that need held, while the Conservative (Clinton) side sees 50 million as the amount of dirty dollars Clinton has amassed from the billionaires that she is beholden to.
How many more people have to lose their jobs and slide into poverty to feed the greed of the Wealthy 1%. Not a question.

Here we go down another infamous DanTex rabbit hole...
I state facts
DanTex most likely says something like "Prove it" or "Trump-supporter"
I state more facts
DanTex says something about "Dodge" in the hopes it will waste more time.
Not really a fun cycle for anyone is it? But before you skip ahead to the regular "Dodge" part
1. Susan Sarandon says something Hillary followers twist up in knots
2. Hillary followers are apoplectic in their posts and so forth, constantly maligning her
3. It is a common theme for Hillary followers to malign Bernie supporters as sexist, misogynistic, etc...
4. I point out the hypocrisy in calling your opponent sexist or misogynistic when maligning a woman because her own beliefs and principles.
Ok, what's it going to be now?
DanTex
(20,709 posts)So now advocating for Trump is "saying something"? Yeah, I wouldn't want to get into the "something" she said either if I were you...

Friendly advice: cut your losses.
First, you didn't provide the surrounding text for context. But still...
So you are really, honestly telling me, that you personally believe that she was "advocating for Trump" by that quote? Wow. If true, that would be stunning. That said it would explain your constant saying basically anything not pro-Hillary is pro-Trump, but still this really takes the cake.
Seriously all kidding aside, are you really saying you believe she was "advocating for Trump" in that quote?
DanTex
(20,709 posts)She was advocating for Trump, parroting the classical Marx/Lenin argument that things have to become worse to hasten the "revolution". And clearly you agree about the Trump part, the only question is if you want Trump for the "revolution" or if you want Trump for Trump.
Not that it matters.
revbones
(3,660 posts)You are much worse off than I thought and makes me regret ever responding to you if this is your argument and you truly believe that she was supporting Trump by saying "Some people feel..." something. Twist it all you want, but trying to say she was advocating for Trump is truly truly pathetic.
Did she ever in that whole interview say anything to the effect of her actually supporting or advocating for Trump? If not, then you either have to admit you are wrong or it is obvious you were spreading falsehoods.
DanTex
(20,709 posts)Yes, she was obviously advocating for Trump, as everyone outside the BoB bubble realized today. Viva la revolución!
revbones
(3,660 posts)No, she was not advocating for Trump, but given how you also see not voting for Hillary as advocating for Trump, I guess we should really question what you thought wasn't advocating for Trump since that would obviously be vastly fewer in number.
DanTex
(20,709 posts)Same as the BoBers here on DU. And like I said, everyone outside the bubble knows this. In the same way that Nader was (by his own admission) intentionally trying to get W elected.
What y'all have working for you, I'll admit, is that it is difficult to tell apart far-left crazies from right-wingers taking advantage of the ignorance of far-left crazies. Fortunately, as the reaction to Sarandon has shown, the Dems have wisened up to the tactic.

(20,709 posts)Like I said, it's practically impossible to determine whether they are naive lefties of righties taking advantage of that naivete, so they have plausible deniability.
Sure, if you want, I'll give Sarandon the benefit of doubt and call her ignorant and not malevolent. Still, she, and the Bernie or Busters here on DU are most definitely advocating for Trump. The only possible outcome of their crusade is to help elect Trump. And IMO the ignorance defense doesn't buy them much.

The public isn't waking up to anything like you describe, and nothing that happened today, just today, has been measured in any meaningful way by pollsters, etc. Pretending it has is just more dishonesty... one thing people have woken up to - on DU at least - is that DanTex is not a very trustworthy poster.
There's also no coordinated left-right effort to sabotage Hillary; that's another of your made up conspiracies.
And hey, the only people I've ever seen - as has been widely noted - that call this election a game are Clinton supporters... who have used the term repeatedly to justify Clinton's bad behavior; she's just "playing the game".
Oh and Bernie or Bust hasn't been a "few" anything for months and months... and your behavior - and people who behave like you - is accelerating it's growth. No progressives want to be associated with people who behave like Clinton, or you. The more you highlight that a Clinton supporter in 2016 is someone willing to lie and behave badly to achieve their goals, the less people want to be part of that little club.
And hey, guess what, we aren't going anywhere... we don't want the garbage you're peddling.

You are acting like the people who can't stand Hillary are Democrats. Pretty much all the over 50 year old Democrats I know are voting for Sanders in the primary and voting for him again or Hillary in the general election.
It's those independent and Green and liberal Libertarian voters who vote for Sanders in the open primaries but are shut out in the closed primaries who will never vote for Hillary no matter what.
Independents far out number Democrats and we cannot win without support from independents.
These independent people are 100% with Sarandon, and whining about those independents to Democrats here on DU completely misses the point. We Democrats will support our nominee, but we alone are too few to win an election. Hillary is despised among those independents we need to win and berating them doesn't help your cause.
