A done deal

It is impossible for me to believe that this election is even close if it is a fair election. Unfortunately, it is already determined that the results will elect Romney.

Theoretically, it seems highly unlikely that the poll numbers would be so close so many times, mostly favoring Obama, but barely. And it seems that the numbers are almost always within the margin of error which leads me to believe that the plan is to create and maintain the illusion that Romney is a real contender so that when the race is called for him, the public won't rise up in protest.

Please convince me that my thinking is as off-the-wall as it should be in our country.

You should not be worried about the gallup poll. They were 20th in accuracey in 2008. Rasmussen leans slightly conservative. TIPP poll and swing state poll should help. Also remember that the media wants to keep the race close as long as possible, so they will act like Romney is really close.
