As Sanders Scored Primary Victories, Cable News Broadcasted a Prison Reality Show and Jesus Documentary
Cable news ignored primaries for three important states.

By Adam Johnson / FAIR
March 29, 2016

(AlterNet) Over the past week, Bernie Sanders racked up six wins out of seven primary contests, winning 92 delegates more than his rival Hillary Clinton to chip into her pledged delegate lead. While not an existential shift in the race, the momentum has changed in Sanders’ favor, especially since he won the last three primaries—Hawaii, Washington state and Alaska—with between 70 and 82 percent of the vote.

You, however, would hardly have noticed had you been watching cable news the night of the Saturday primaries. Both MSNBC and CNN forwent live election coverage on arguably Sanders’ biggest night of the year, instead deciding to air a normally scheduled prison reality show and a “documentary” on Jesus.

:Snip:

The race is far from over, yet most of the major cable networks have all but moved on. Clinton’s lead, while considerable, is far from insurmountable. Indeed, the netting of 66 delegates Saturday night pulls Sanders to within 268 pledged delegates of the former secretary of State—with 2,073 delegates yet to be awarded.

Money is all that matters to mass media and their corporate owned news and entertainment divisions, all six of them.

No media will use a Google volunteer maintained database. The HI party took forever. I wonder if they decided to recount all in Honolulu? If that was the case...they had to physically fly them from the other counties.

The media should have ...explained this though I think it would have gone a long way to explain to the public, look we have nothing official. We are waiting, with you, on the official count.

We have had a version of this happen in San Diego when the registrar stops, once for a serious glitch. We were all as frustrated as the readers.

As soon as the wins were announced they were posted here I know because I was reading the posts.

The OP seems to be making a mountain out of nothing much

From their own on Twitter.

The media did not report on this until the HI Democratic Party announced reports early East Coast time. Based on Twitter and the Google maintained database...I "called" it before going to bed. We held on the actual story until the morning though

Cspan had some book show on.

There was literally no news on any channel but free speech tv for at least 2 hours.

Ironically, Free speech tv aired a documentary about Plutocracy through the ages during the same time.

In a country with theoretical separation of church and state.

I know why they did it. I blame the HI Democratic Party, but the media should have explained the hold up

One that was important. I get it why they could not do butkis, media should have explained why they had a hold up. And have at least a crawl explaining this.

I know people will defend stupidity. But hey, I know why there was a hold up. CNN and MSNBC and Fox depend on the AP feed, which depends on official data, which was held for hours by the Party. I wonder if they decided to count everything in Honolulu? Of course the Dem party has a machine, one that does not like outside rebellions. This could write itself.

But keep defending that stupidity in a country with supposed separation of church and state. Shit like this lays the lie to that.

happily make time for, they couldn't figure out a way to do right by a secular democracy? No, I don't buy it, this was willful.

Basically, it's a dydj (do your damn job) situation.

But, I digress. Their job is to make a profit.
