The problem with the super delegates

Last edited Wed Mar 30, 2016, 04:47 PM - Edit history (1)

I'd wager that the following is along the lines of what a large number of Clinton supers are thinking about their own prospects of switching to support Bernie Sanders at the convention:

The purpose of super delegates to is protect the long term interests of the Democratic Party, not to reflect the 'will of the people.' That is my charge. We protect the party from losing seats in the Congress and in state and local races.

Bernie Sanders is a Johnny-come-at-the-last-minute 'Democrat.' He caucuses with the Democrats in the Senate because if he didn't, his rather limited influence in the Senate would be further reduced. He has criticized the Democratic party many, many times during his career in Congress. He joined the party in the last year to in his words, 'increase media attention.' Now he seeks to become the head of my party. In my view, Bernie Sanders is not a Democrat and to pretend that he is, after declining to join the party in his 25 years in Congress, is personally an insult to all that I've worked for in the party.

There is another more important issue. If Bernie Sanders gets our party's nomination, I believe he will be eviserated by the Republicans in the general election. He has been given a free pass by the media so far. His biography has not been vetted. When the Republicans provide their own outright false but very effective version of his biography on Fox News, talk radio and TV ads (imagine the Repubs calling him 'Bolshevik Bernie' or something like that), Bernie won't know what hit him. The result will be huge loses in down ballot races.

My job is to protect those Democrats in down ballot races and that includes protecting my own career. I am one of those down-ballot candidates. That is why I won't vote for Bernie Sanders at the convention.

I'd just to like for them all to keep their damned mouths shut until the convention -- which is the only place they have a function in the nomination. I'm tired of seeing the total SuperDupers counted in the pledged deligate count, I'm tired of them bragging about their ability to circumvent the will of the voters, and I'm tired of seeing friggin' LOBBYISTS, for chrissake, being allowed to be SuperDupers.

he hasn't been through the fire of a national election like the Clintons, but voters are giving credit for being genuine this time around.

It took guts to call himself a socialist while the Cold War was still going on.

include all the Rovian tactics used against him - such as the Sarandon bs, the false narrative about the VA scandal, the sexismmisogynist crap, the racism argument or any of that?

Guess it's just a free pass when Republicans don't need to sling the slime because supposed Democrats are doing it for them...

Personally I highly suspect most have been visited by lobbyists , so they are corrupted votes, removing the peoples voice altogether.

As to vetting Bernie, his life has always been an open book, where Hillary's is frought with innuendo, bad decisions, her religion is the almighty dollar and she will be under investigation for false crimes her entire 4 years. Her past is clearly tainted where Bernie's is about the cleanest in all of Congress.

I do not care about "party" and neither should anyone. Choose the best candidate. He cannot be easily influenced, Hillary can-she trusts the wrong people and strong arms the truth.

Please share with us the information that you have about Clinton being continually investigated over the next 4 years. And how you know that Bernie has the cleanest past of the 535 people in Congress. Or how most of the supers are being lobbied by lobbyists.

I am a Democrat, and I care very much about the party. The name of this website is Democratic Underground and many of its members, I'd wager, care about the Democratic party. You obviously do not. You and Bernie do have something in common.

Bernie Sanders is not fit to be the head of the Democratic party. He is a faux Democrat. He hasn't shown the work, the commitment or the record that party members expect from the head of their party.

That is the primary reason why Clinton supporters will not switch.

Clinton, has a history of having false accusations hurled at her. The enemy is not going to let up if she is elected.

To call her a democrat is a stretch- her policies are not very democratic in my view. I am a democrat and though you may be a loyal party member, todays Dem party has not been loyal to you, or me, or the majority of citizens. If you want to wear blinders, I can respect your personal choice.

That being said, Bernie had to choose a party to run. Given he has a deep commitment to the US, a love of country and a love of civil rights , we are blessed he chose the Democratic Party. At this time, the Party is controlled by the DNC which is not a democratic entity, it is a corporate entity that has been allowed to take over(3rd way)

As far as Bernie's work, he makes good votes, some taken with a pinch of salt as bills have little riders attached, but as a whole long history in Congress, very good smart votes. Hillary dipped her toes in and made bad and corporate friendly votes.

Being an Independent in Congress is not a bad thing. You dont have to bend your ethics or morals to take the party line on bad legislation. That is democracy, not following the will of a clique.

This forum is the democratic underground, not the democratic party Forum
