Notice the statement was walked back from “Classified Materials” to “Emails Marked Classified”. Why this tiny change of statement is important

Some of these topics may seem entirely obscure and meaningless here, yet I can assure you this thread just set off alarms at the NSA and CIA. Were I to continue discussing any of the above I would certainly expect a knock on the door and most likely my laptop well be hacked and probed within moments of posting this thread.

So when an email says “They confirmed that XYZ .. happened in Blah Blah Country” you have just discussed US Capabilities on a Non-Secure channel. It doesn’t matter that you didn’t retransmit the original cable or email – you just gave up one of America’s most coveted and closest guarded secrets.

We all here at DU understood the significance of the disclosure of Joe Wilson’s wife and the damage done to the United States non-proliferation efforts. We all understood the cost was the destruction of a covert operation many years in the making, involving human assets whose cover had been blown and could never be used again. An operation costing many millions of dollars annually to maintain. We all understood going forward in our efforts to ensure the United States would not be attacked by a terrorist group through the use of a Nuclear Device or “Dirty Bomb” had suffered in measurably.


We all understood that.

But when we discuss what we know, we are really discussing HOW we acquire information – and THAT is the Top Secret in Secret Information. Apparatuses costing in the $Billions and some of the most closely guarded secrets of America and the Intelligence Community have just been compromised.


And if you hold a Clearance above "Classified" you are painfully made aware of these policies on a daily basis.
