Speaking of Big Oil

There was a time when HRC very much promoted fracking.

Where does she stand today?

How Hillary Clinton's State Department Sold Fracking to the World
A trove of secret documents details the US government's global push for shale gas.

1. Deep ties to fracking industry - fundraiser in Jan.

Zaid Jilani of The Intercept is reporting that Clinton will be traveling to Philadelphia and New York City for private fundraisers hosted by financial titans Franklin Square Capital Partners and one of the top executives of BlackRock, respectively. The FS Energy & Power Fund — one of Franklin Square’s prominent investment funds — is primarily responsible for funding fracking and offshore oil drilling, meaning that much of the campaign money Clinton will be raising in Philadelphia will come indirectly from the fossil fuel industry. And as Mother Jones has previously reported, one of Clinton’s lasting legacies during her time as Secretary of State was the propagation of fracking around the world.

BlackRock, based in New York City, has longstanding ties to Hillary Clinton. Cheryl Mills, who sits on the board of the Clinton Foundation, is also a member of BlackRock’s board of directors. Mills was also one of Clinton’s top advisors at the State Department, and worked in the Bill Clinton administration:

Prior to founding BlackIvy, Cheryl served as counselor and chief of staff at the U.S. Department of State where she managed the foreign policy and operational priorities for the $55 billion agency… She previously worked in Washington, D.C., where she served as deputy counsel to the President at the White House. Cheryl’s legal experience also includes serving as associate counsel to the President, as deputy general counsel of the Clinton/Gore Transition Planning Foundation.

As her Clinton Foundation bio notes, Cheryl Mills also worked as an associate at Hogan Lovells (now Hogan Hartson), the same law firm where current Attorney General Loretta Lynch and Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts worked. And as Jilani pointed out, BlackRock raising money for Clinton is a good business strategy for them, as a Clinton presidency would mean that BlackRock’s business model of long-term investments over short-term trading will be rewarded with additional handouts from the federal government.

2. The best she could triangulate is that if she becomes president, she "might" eliminate "some"

fracking on "some" federal land, phased in over "some" unspecified time. This is Clinton-Speak for "She sure as hell won't do a thing."

If someone wants to defend or correct this position plez feel free.

10. That's as intellectual as they get. I've started many threads on issues and I don't believe

that I've ever gotten a decent response. Can't blame them because they recognize that it's hard to pin down H. Clinton as to her positions. They just need to have a signature line that says "I support H. Clinton's positions on all issues, whatever they are. Don't ask me for specifics."

She was dumbfounded to discover this.

7. "The World Is Hemorrhaging Methane, and Now We Can See Where"
Fri Apr 1, 2016, 01:41 PM
Apr 2016

The Aliso Canyon breach is accidental, but thousands of other sites are flaring off methane intentionally, as waste.

For more than two months now, a ruptured storage well has poured thousands of tons of gas into the Porter Ranch section of Los Angeles. The Aliso Canyon leak is huge—California’s largest known source of methane emissions at this point—but not compared to another font of wasted gas miles away in Venezuela.

Punta de Mata is home to the world’s largest gas flare, one of the flaming chimneys used to burn off excess natural gas at oil wells and other energy sites. In 2012, it incinerated about 768,000 metric tons of natural gas, almost 10 times the amount given off so far from the Southern California Gas Company’s facility at Aliso Canyon.

Methane, the primary component of natural gas, is 84 times more potent as a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide over two decades. As countries seek to comply with the new UN climate accord by slashing emissions, both gas flaring and leaks remain persistent problems. Though widespread, they can be difficult to track, given that methane gas is invisible and odorless.

Now, high-tech cameras and satellites are capturing those releases better than ever, putting pressure on companies and officials to take action. Flaring gas has a much lower impact on the climate than a vent directly into the atmosphere—the flame converts gas into an amount of carbon dioxide that will have 30 times less warming potential in the near term. Still, the methane hotspots spanning the globe add a hefty sum to its greenhouse gas pollution.
