2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHillary is Losing It...
Granted, campaigns are stressful, no doubt. But they are for a reason: vetting. And while Hillary demonstrated good weathering of the unintelligent GOP idiots in Congress who only clouded the waters further, it appears, when it comes to handling intelligent criticism, Hillary buckles. Considerably.
Take for instance, the recent debate question in Florida regarding the FBI Investigation of her private email server, when asked if she would drop out if an indictment comes, she fumbles her words and states she's not even going to answer that question.
Or how poorly she handled the BLM protestor at a wealthy supporters South Carolina Mansion, when she was asked to apologize for her use of language "super predators" when referring to African Americans in the context of criminal prosecution.
And now, when asked an easy question by a Green Peace activist about accepting donations from Big Oil, she freaks out so badly that it sends the exchange into an overnight viral sensation.
Maybe it's the string of recent election losses, or maybe it's the fact that she's pulled out early from Wisconsin or maybe it's the fact that she's buckled under pressure of honoring her agreement to debate in NY, or maybe it's the announcement that she and her staffers are to be interviewed by the FBI, etc, etc... Maybe it's all of this together and she's just had a bad week. But if that's how she handles the pressure, maybe she's not fit to be Commander in Chief.

(28,506 posts)Clinton gets angry at individuals. And also got angry for the wrong reason - jumping to the conclusion that it was a Sanders supporter without knowing who she was talking to. Those are two big differences in the candidates' anger responses. I'd love to see Clinton have some righteous anger over how systemic racism, classism, and environmental degradation are destroying the US and need to be addressed. But all I hear from her on those issues is a cold, calculating, legalistic interpretation designed to keep the status quo in place.

John and Lori Witmer of New Berlin attend a memorial service for their daughter Michelle at Wood National Cemetery in 2011.
7:17 p.m.
By Annysa Johnson of the Journal Sentinel
Two more presidential candidates have responded to questions posed by the father of a fallen Wisconsin solder, days after he was barred from asking them at a Republican town hall meeting in Milwaukee on Tuesday.
The two Democratic candidates -- former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders -- sent their answers to the questions posed by John Witmer to the Journal Sentinel on Friday. Ohio Gov. John Kasich, one of three candidates seeking the Republican nomination, responded on Wednesday, and his answers were previously published by the Journal Sentinel.
Witmer's 20-year-old daughter Michelle, a Wisconsin National Guard member, was killed during an ambush in 2004 in Baghdad.
Witmer had gone to the town hall meeting hoping to gauge the Republican candidate's positions on war, the draft, women in combat, and veterans issues. He was initially invited to ask questions, but CNN reneged because Witmer wouldn't pledge to vote for one of the candidates there.
The Journal Sentinel has posed Witmer's questions to all of the candidates. Republican candidates Donald Trump and Ted Cruz had not responded as of Friday. Below are the answers received to date, with the most recent ones first
..................
..................
Q: With three daughters in the Army National Guard, I saw, firsthand, their struggle for respect and recognition. In the last few years, restrictions have been lifted on our female soldiers, allowing them to serve in combat positions. As Commander-In-Chief what position will you take on the role of women in the Military?
Clinton:I applaud Secretary Carter's decision to allow women to serve in combat positions. For the first time, every single position in the military will be open to women, which will make our country safer. Women in our armed forces have proven their heroism and abilities again and again, and while the progress we have made toward a truly inclusive military is certainly moving us in the right direction we are not done yet. As commander-in-chief, I will work to build on this progress in several ways. We must aggressively combat sexual assault and harassment and strengthen protections to ensure that our women and men in uniform can serve without fear and report incidents without retaliation. We must also work to modernize the military health system to ensure that the health needs of military women including reproductive health care are fully supported. We must promote family policies that provide military families with additional opportunities and much-needed flexibility, including increased access to child care and parental leave. And we must never forget the women who protect us when their service ends. Women veterans are the fastest growing population served by the VA, and we need new funding to ensure they receive the equal and respectful access to health care they deserve.
Sanders:I am proud of and grateful for the millions of women who have served in the United States Armed Forces throughout American history. Women in the military have made invaluable contributions to our nation's safety and deserve the unqualified recognition by all Americans for their service and sacrifices.
As President, I will continue the Obama Administration's historic policy of opening all combat roles to women. This decision is past due, especially because women in the military have long served in the face of danger. In modern wars, there are no front lines. In Iraq and Afghanistan, hundreds of female soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice for their nation. That solemn fact must be understood and honored by our nation.
Kasich:...........
Angrydemex
(43 posts)Addressing harassment is very important. However, I don't believe it would've changed anything. You've got to think what kind of environment that the females are in when they join the military. Not to insult our service members ( I was in the Army myself) but I know what kind of people enlist. They're not the most intellectual people out there. As a matter of fact it's not just females being sexually harassed but the majority of sexual assaults in the military are male on male. So yes I commend Hillary on what she did. Though I'm not a fan of any organization that invades other countries for no reason. But to say that Bernie hasn't fought for social injustices is ignorant. Bernie has been arrested for fighting for what he believed in and has voted yes on plenty of bills benefitting women.
riversedge
(70,347 posts)I do realize that the male on male assault is a huge problem as I had a brother in the service not to long ago--and he has told me some horror stories.

She says that almost all the medical complaints from female military personnel, both officers and enlisted were G.U. tract infections caused by "holding it" during the night rather than going to the head and risk being sexually assaulted by fellow Marines. Never had an instance of a male patient claiming injury due to 'male on male sexual assault'. I'm sure it happens, too but I question that the majority of sexually assaulted in the service is predominantly male on male.

Sanders: "I told you had 4 minutes, you had more than 4 minutes and you persisted."
Reporter: "I am a reporter, that is what we do!"
A rule about journalism, do not make the story about yourself. The reporter did exactly that.
It goes on:
Sanders: "Do not say I walk, how much time did we give, more than four minutes (asking the question of somebody else), that was the time we agreed on (to the reporter)."
Reporter: "I... am... not gonna squabble this..."
Sanders then sits down for another interview. So the question is, where did Sanders walk off to?

ALL THE WHILE changing her positions because of Bernie's strong and consistent and popular positions.
