The testy debate negotiations between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders campaigns spilled out into the open on Saturday, with each side accusing the other of political gamesmanship and making unreasonable demands.
Behind closed doors, both camps have been hotly disputing where and when to host a debate before the New York primary on April 19. On Saturday the fight went public.
The Sanders campaign needs to stop with the games, Clinton national press secretary Brian Fallon said in a public statement Saturday morning. The voters of New York deserve better.
A few minutes later, Sanders campaign fired back with a public statement of its own. The people of New York and America deserve to see and hear a debate on the important issues facing the state and country, said Sanders campaign spokesman Michael Briggs.
The exchange was a reflection of rising tensions between the two campaigns. With distrust between the Sanders and Clinton campaigns high in recent months, the teams are negotiating the debate schedule strictly through a third party at the DNC, instead of dealing directly.

(10,559 posts)Seems like an unnecessary "shoot yourself in the foot" thing to do, especially when "trustworthy" numbers are already upside down.

(1,377 posts)It is bullshit to deny any state a debate, and DNC has been trying real hard not to have them. It is crooked politics and is going to cost the DNC are party. The whole BernieorBust shit really was started when DNC changed the rules when they saw Clinton was going to have a primary. Changing the rules and reducing the numbers of DNC debates reduced the number from 28 in 2008 to 6
in 2016. This was clearly done for same reason you are saying no more debates. You want to win by any means necessary and not giving the other people who are voting a chance to get to see Sanders. Which is probably a smart thing because Clinton sucks so bad in debates she loses votes.
This is when I saw many Sanders supporters say DNC is fucked and Hillary is not getting their votes.

(1,377 posts)2000 was the anomaly. Most other years are 12+ and 1988 was 22.

(1,217 posts)They had 25 debates in 2008 and only 6 scheduled for 2016.
The DNC only wanted 6 but agreed to 10 after being ridiculed for slanting the primary season.
The candidates and DNC agreed to another in April and the last in May.
Total of 10.
What are you afraid of---that more people will get to know Sanders and vote for him?
The writing is on the wall......

(12,233 posts)All picked on dates that no one but political junkies would be watching. Everyone knows, including Morning Joe, the debates were horrifically rigged to keep Clinton the inevitable.
The Clinton Camp is getting testy and nasty because they could lose this and with the FBI investigation, who knows how much further she's going. Any other candidate under FBI investigation wouldn't have the audacity to run, let alone stay in a race and out the party and country in jeapordy.

(1,377 posts)The Email will go away I am sure. I read a few of the FOIA emails and some of them are not going to paint a pretty picture. Clinton is lucky Sanders wanted Email off limits. And she has the spoiled nerve to cry about him being dirty.

(8,352 posts)exactly how many debates were completed at that point in the 2008 campaign?
Then please list exactly how many debates we have had thus far in the 2016 campaign. Please do not include 'town halls' as those are NOT debates.
Let's compare and contrast shall we?

Do you have any idea how much blow back she would get for going back on her agreed deal? Or did you forget she made that deal??
Well she did. Now during the finals game where NY is playing? Really now. FFS.
