2016 Postmortem

http://bradblog.com"300,000 legally registered voters could find themselves unable to vote at all under state Republicans' disenfranchising Photo ID voting restriction, implemented for the first time in a major election this Tuesday.
Similarly ominous signs for the GOP, with growing evidence to suggest the party may be locked and loaded for a contentious and contested national nominating convention in Cleveland, as Trump may be fading and one (once?) powerful Republican calling for the nomination to go to a "fresh face". Good luck with that.
But there's some good news amongst the omens. An encouraging March jobs report; An infamous 'Wall Street Godfather' explains why he believes Bernie Sanders would be best for the economy; St. Louis, MO is set to use only paper ballots in their local elections on Tuesday (that's a mixed omen); A federal judge kills Mississippi's ban on adoption by same-sex couples; And there's even some encouraging news today amongst more ominous signs in our latest Green News Report today with Desi Doyen. What are the odds of that? Good luck, world! "

(3,992 posts)that the same thing happened a few days before our caucuses here and that many people who were registered to vote were shown not to be registered. Interesting.

Yeah, I suspect someone got into their Server.
Any other geeks please chime-in and correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks.

(2,178 posts)That would be convenient. I wonder if the IT people requested new equipment that was turned down.

(36,063 posts)I'm not sure how long the DMV's state issued ID is valid for, but I suspect it will be good until 2018 and Walker's re-election bid.
It's possible to also look at this as a 'sea-trial', that actually gets dems prepared for Nov. Getting hundreds of thousands of young voters registered is good for the general and WI elections going into the near future.

(2,178 posts)Not to understate the problem, but I think you get the drift.

(36,063 posts)people here are well aware of the voter ID law needed to vote (but not needed to register to vote) and the separate requirements for proof of residency needed to register.
As is often the case with people, procrastination is common, and so there has been a last minute rush for state issued ID and complete registration.
These aren't disastrous things, even with the inevitable lines and the crashing of suddenly very busy subroutines on the WI gov computer net, what's being demonstrated is a whole bunch of people preparing to turnout on Tuesday.

(231 posts)I hate this stuff. It seems to happen all the time esp when a grass roots candidate dares take on the establishment.
