2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumClintonians are in disarray
and are all of sudden confused by Sander's sudden momentum.
Sanders is riding a wave arguing that we can and should do more for college students, elderly, sick, poor, etc. We can do better.
"We can't" or "stay the course" is in a way saying put up the white flag to the American people. We refuse to go silently into the night knowing that global warming has started to swallow up Miami and many coastal cities. If I was a New Yorker right now I would be seriously reconsidering support Hillary.

(36,063 posts)In a two-way race, a 5 point swing in preference would result in a 55-45 victory I don't think 5 points makes a landslide, although the ten point difference that generates would be seen as a very solid win.

(2,166 posts)I run into Bernie people everywhere.
I have yet to discover a single Hill supporter.
I think 60-40 would be a land slide.
I saw two full-size Bernie cardboard cut outs in downtown windows today...
and plenty of Bernie signs. Nothing
for Hillary. He continues to draw huge
crowds wherever he speaks.
The people are waking up... let us hope we are in time.

(36,063 posts)I don't read anything into that, other than in 2014 there was a huge push to get out dems against Walker and now there is nothing.
Apparently neither dem campaign desired to work this mostly red area.

(3,937 posts)I disagree that it is all of a sudden. Iowa was the first big wake up call and they have been on defense ever since.
Clinton's negative campaigning and friendly-fire in 2008 finished her off. She is attacking Sanders much the same way and it is a mistake, again. She comes off a little paranoid in the Greenpeace clip. Nevada and Wisconsin are a signs that things are slipping away from her.

(3,978 posts)the problem is we as human beings are not 100% machines. We like ideas, we have emotions, fears, joys and euphoric triumphs.
Trump is running on appealing to the emotions of Americans that see the glass is half full (eg Make America great again).
Sanders is running on appealing to the emotions of Americans that see the glass is already half full (Obama has given us a solid foundation but now is the time to do more).
Clinton is saying stay the course as the glass is already full and we do not need to do anymore to "improve".
Clinton is looking at things pragmatically as we can't replace the coal industry over night which is logically true. But her pragmatic approach is based on short term tunnel vision thinking. What are the long term ramifications of coal? As solar technology has shown it can and will replace most of the fossil fuel industry at this rate of innovation.

(14,459 posts)She and Bill have done phenomenally well translating their political weight into financial and social gain. Many of her surrogates in social media are likewise doing very well, and would like to continue to do so.
That would be fine with me, as they could be doing just as well and fix the rest of the problems we have...but they are convinced the reason they are doing well is BECAUSE things are currently the way they are, and to change that would likely take that away from them.
Lacking the courage to try to improve things is pretty much the sum up of #nowecant...and that's not going to work.

(15,265 posts)destabilized heavily armed powder keg. We have an economy that is creating unprecedented wealth for a select few while upwards of 47 million Americans live in poverty. Our national debt is over 104% of our GDP.
Grover Norquist's "Starve The Beast" was taken to its end game these last 8 years There is a looming budget crisis looming with Social Security in the next decade and it is clear that the Democratic party is going to do nothing to reverse the fiscal policies that brought us this point.
The current economy and political status quo is not pragnatic. Fighting for more of the same is not acceptable.

Hillary is in the driver's seat here.

(1,947 posts)for the fact Hillary doesn't inspire people enough to caucus? Thought she had that in the bag? the very same thing you guys were saying about Bernie supporters , " they don't vote" came back and bit you in the ass. And you whine? the only people who didn't do nothing was the people who didn't show up. This time that was Hillary delegates. But she inspires so many lol puh-leeze with poutrage.

She can't even get her pledged delegates to show up to the caucus.
Hard to drive a campaign bus with the wheels coming off.
