He has written articles praising the tax policies of Bernie Sanders.

He, not David Brock, not Peter Daou, not Hillary Clinton, is the one who broke the Sanders tax disclosure issue recently.

Bernie Sanders is not being persecuted. This is a legit issue of transparency that he will have to address, and it's either a sign of political malpractice or something else that he's getting caught off guard by this.

tell ya what, maybe Hillary supporters will lay off the taxes if the stupid transcripts argument also gets a breather, but if Bernie people are going to insist and pushing transparency, Hillary people will push transparency and consistency
whatchamacallit
(15,558 posts)Not because they wouldn't be probative, but because I knew she'd never reveal them. She's filthy rich with many questionable activities and associations. Bernie is poor (by congress standards). What do you really hope to find?
geek tragedy
(68,868 posts)this is a basic of any serious presidential candidate.
Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz got raked over the coals for disclosing more than Bernie Sanders has.
If there are any ticking time bombs in there, or if there aren't, we should know either way.
And it's not just the super rich that have stuff in there of interest--Marco Rubio's finances got quite a bit of attention.

(4,974 posts)How about you relax with a nice cup of tea and give him a few weeks to get them to you.
geek tragedy
(68,868 posts)Convenient.
A politician's promise to provide transparency does not mean anything. Only actual transparency counts.
Johnston has been asking about this for months, and has been stonewalled by Sanders and his staffers.
Why do you suppose that is?
Nanjeanne

She released hers prior to the remaining 9 states in 2008. Since there are still 22 states to go in 2016 - Bernie is only following her excellent example. And I bet he beats it.

By the time he releases his taxes, his campaign will be admitting he has no path to the nomination, and no one will care.
The last meaningful primary vote will take place on April 26.

(4,974 posts)geek tragedy
(68,868 posts)It is very simple.
If he can't walk the walk, he shouldn't talk the talk.
Hillary Clinton is walking the walk better than Bernie Sanders is.
Bernie is talking the talk.
And that is the plain truth of the matter.
Until he at bare minimum meets her level of disclosure and transparency, he's a hypocrite for attacking her on the issue.

(16,967 posts)It was excellent. Glad you filled in that he was the first reporter before Tapper to bring up Sanders lack of accountability despite holding himself out as a "paragon" of virtue.
I Googled it and found it right away at the nationalmemo link. Definitely worth the read.

BTW, When Is Hillary going to release the Transcripts? I think were up to about 60 days or so now.

(1,019 posts)But the Sanders campaign has not provided me with any returns after I repeatedly requested them. My web searches have not turned up any Sanders tax returns, save the 2014 Form 1040. But if someone has located complete Sanders tax returns, please email me via davidcay@me.com.
If there are no full returns available, then the Senator has offered a deceptive response. If his campaign clarifies his remarks (or releases his tax returns back to 2007, when he became a senator), Ill update again.

But the implication that this automatically means he must be hiding something is ridiculous.
It verges on the Rovian. USe a candidates strengths against him.

(68,868 posts)I might have sympathy.
His strength is talking about transparency, not practicing transparency.

His interview with the Daily News was a Trumpesque train wreck where he admitted he had no idea how he would break up the banks not what the fallout would be.
All talk, no substance. Not my idea of honesty.
hellofromreddit
(1,182 posts)It isn't legitimate. Nobody's going into this looking for anything specific related to something he has actually done--it's just a fishing expedition. As soon as he puts out his tax info you people will simply ignore it and hold up the next hoop to demand he jump through.
Where the screaming and crying about Bernie "hustling the party" all go?
Or ripping off his supporters?
What happened to painting him as racist sympathizer? Which seems really odd for a jewish guy, BTW.
Maybe he's not raising enough for other democrats?
Or was he too negative?
"He gets nothing done!"
Of course, there's the good old math screed that's less about abusing Sanders and more about abusing his supporters.
What those threads all have in common is OPs making no attempt to flesh out any ideas, ask any questions, answer any questions, or engage in discussion. Just throwing anything and everything out there to see what sticks. Textual equivalent of winning a fight by screaming. Same as today's salvo, apparently.
